After a 3 day absence, Telkom made a guest appearance today. Can't tell what stage they are at, but it looks like some cables have been inserted into the bigger green "sheath". The yard is still a mess and it looks like they have quite a bit more work to do.

I see a big chunk of Rondebosch has been lit from Silwood to Klipfontein Road

Yep.Rollout appears to be reasonably consistent with the Webafrica blog post mentioned earlier in this thread. If anything it's ahead of schedule which is pleasantly surprising!

Freedom Day! After a long absence, the contractors arrived this morning to tidy up the yard. The splicing crew arrived a bit later. I'm not sure if this is the "tell-tale black box" on the pole that everyone refers to... this looks like something else? The guys working on the pole seemed to think everything would be done in about 4 weeks, where-after the QC would commence, before the fiber is lit. Not sure how reliable this is, but seemed like a decent estimate. I'm going to choose to believe him, in the absence of anything more official.

Splicers have left, and this is what it now looks like. I'm assuming this is the "black box", after-all. The cables are all now joined up into the "box".

Grats!! We're so close! Mine there since last week - checking the map almost everyday - hoping it's not as long as 3 months, but will take that if I have to :) . I also go check on the box every few days to reassure myself that it's a happening thing. Is your's also the cylindrical kind that I shared in the picture earlier?

Discovered the other day that it's called a slimbox. I had forgotten I found the manual in the box the techie threw away. Came across it when cleaning out my study. The one in my property is slightly different...Its not cylindrical...more a rectangular shaped box. Mine has been there since end Jan but still no fibre!

Cheers - getting really close now.

Wow, that's quite a long wait. Would have thought that if the splicing was done (assuming that the box = splicing) it would take 2-3 months at most.

This is what the box looks like

Hmm, this looks more like the conventional splicing box / slim box I've seen in other posts. I wonder what the difference is between these and the cylindrical one on my pole (this is starting to sound wrong :p )

Not really sure what the difference is.If it's any comfort I saw a cylindrical box about a block from me where I know Fibre is live.

Any more updates on Rondebosch? The frantic digging and cable-work seems to have stopped - at least in the vicinity where I live. The magic "black box" is up, and I see the odd fiddling at a man-hole or two. I assume we may be approaching a testing / QC phase before another segment or two goes live?

I think the precursor to QC is lots of activity at the Fibre cabinet located in the street next to the DC.I stand to correction though.

So a further update to the coverage map.Looks like Openserve are about 1 month ahead of schedule. If that stays true to form my road should be live in 1 month.Happy days because my ADSL connection has been appalling the last few months!

Woohoo!! Great to see some activity again. Grats to everyone who falls into the new purple update :) .

Unfortunately, for me, they've missed a spot!! Our home is surrounded by purple, including about 100m from our door, but we still seem to fall in the planning stages. Black box is up in the yard, cables are laid, some minor manhole activity here and there, so it seems like lit fiber may just be around the corner (pun intended :) )

Noticed a crew working on my pole this afternoon.Had a chat with them. They are doing quality control on the installation of the black box and I can expect FTTH to be live in 4-8 weeks.Looking good.
