Fuel consumption

That is amazing. I imagine that you must miss the economy quite a lot, but surely the DC is a bit more practical than the platkar was?

Half of me regrets not instead opting for the 2.0 TDi, but the other half says I should be happy with what I have since it puts a massive grin on my face when I stomp on it, and with WFH being permanent for the foreseeable future, I'm still spending less on fuel than I was when we were full-time office-based.

Itching to get that Stage 1 tune though. If I am to have terrible fuel economy, I at least want some power, dammit.

Work commute when I was in a hurry. Not much traffic. About 8km distance.

I can't afford to even get a car like that for free, never mind paying for that car and it's drinking habits.

I miss the consumption, the speed (2.2 is slow) and the features yes, but a sedan wasn't working for our needs anymore. And the longer we have this DC the more we love the convenience of it. And it has big high profile tyres unlike the passat, it doesn't care about the state of our roads much, that makes up for it's shortcomings.

One day when I'm big I'll buy big fast cars like you guys.

Yeah sadly one has to buy what is necessary sometimes, and not what one's heart wants. If you are lucky, you get to buy one vehicle that fits both roles, but the flexibility of a bakkie is hard to beat, especially when you have to chuck rubbish at the tip, or transport countertops or materials like that. I was contemplating getting a small Opel Utility as a runabout but honestly, I can do 99% of my daily stuff with the Avant, so it would just be a waste if I'm to be honest.

But fast? Not a chance. There's a reason the Avant with the 2.0T has the 'two point slow' nickname:pit's a bit of a lump to get going with quite a lot of weight to haul around.

Now if it was an RS4, we'd be talking...

In theory it shows over 1000km when I fill up, it only gets just over 900 though, trip computer reading is far out.

Normal city driving hits me around 10L/100km on my 2010 Civic 1.8 Hatch.
Lowest I got was from JHB to Ballito, 6.3L/100km at the speed limit with Cruise on.
If I do granny driving, I can hit about 7-8L/100km in the city

Ahhhh, I thought you were bragging about your current ride:laugh:

VW makes astonishingly frugal diesels and astonishingly thirsty petrols (except for @6spdmanual who is the outlier with his frugal GTi)
 
Average consumption of 5.1l/100km from Nelspruit to Durban, +- 650km. This was while sticking to speed limits with some heavy traffic on the N2 before Ballito where the bridge broke due floods. Renault Sandero Stepway 900T with 2 occupants and full boot. I used 34 or 35 liters of fuel (so less than ¾ of a tank), thus actual figure is about 5.3l/100km
 
Trading in the Grand Vitara tomorrow. Gatvol of zero performance and in return getting 12 to 12.5/100km.

Should see that drop to 8.5 with the new car.
 
A good site for checking up on real world fuel economy is spritmonitor.de
It allows one to do decent research often better than sites like fuelly.com
