Ford Focus Fuel Consumption Stats

Hi Kevin,

Im so glad you asked that question, I drive a Ford focus 1.6 zetec 05,
I Have been trying to ask people the same question as im doing pretty much the same mpg as you.

I Can confirm that im biteing the bullet so to speak and the car is going into Ford on Thursday to find out whats wrong.

Do you also notice when you are moving forward without pressing the gas the car seems to loose power then back (and so-on) also lack of power pulling away and all torque is at high revs.

God my car sounds knackered.

I Will let you know what Ford say on Thursday, (Wish me luck)

Hi Paul. Yea Im experiencing the same as you. Also my revs dont fall straight away when changing gears, takes about 2 seconds (sometimes it does fall like it should), then falls to 1.

Please let me know what comes of your Ford encounter.

I hope all this is resolved, because I really love my focus.

Sounds like you guys have the same focus?

The problems sounds ECU or electrical related, more likely ECU.

PaulBB1:
Is it the Facelift focus or the older 1, 1.6 Zetec sounds like the older 1.
The 2005 model that i have is referred to as the mk2 model and doesn't have a zetec as far as i know only the 2.0 are zetec, 2003-1.6-Sigma
, but anyway these guys have a nice P&P ecu for the 1.6 Zetec.

What's weird with mine, is that when driving at 170km/h, my fuel consumption is about 7.6L/100km.

Although, my car only weighs something like 890kg...

Your Ford seems like it is complaining about something...

Take it to the dealership, and ask questions. Probing ones...

:)

Hi guys.
Anyone driving a Ford Focus or Fiesta?

Please post your fuel consumption stats as I would like to compare notes.

On the ford website, and in various magazines, it states that 7.2l per 100km could be achieved with the Focus 1.6. How this is possible, I would love to know!
Im currently getting about 11l per 110km! And thats while making 'Driving Miss Daisy II'.

I would like some more stats before I approach the dealership and complain about this, because its false information.

 My mothers got a focus 1.6 and gets about 7.2l/100km average. And she drives it hard! There is something not right with your car:o

I drive a focus 1.6 Si (Picking up my ST on friday) and i got between 7.2 and 7.4 when driving on the highway between 110-130km/h. When driving in urban areas (lots of stops and pull aways) I get 8.5 - 8.7. When REALLY putting my foot down and driving like a maniac it averages around 10.6. If i've got my facts straight, these ECU's actually learn your driving style and adjusts accordingly. Think I read ot somewhere on the SA Ford Focus owners club forum.

That is good for a diesel, but still sounds abit high. Know of a guy that gets 4.2 L/100KM or is it city driving?

4/5DR?
Yip, 4.2 sounds about right for the 2L Focus diesel. The 5.5-6.2 was quoting upper levels :D (My wife gets the below 5 levels). Also, GHia implies the 4-door.
The funny part is doing 130KM/H to the Eastern Cape got me about 6L/100Km, but dropping the speed to 110 or 100 brings it down to below 5.5.
Driving speed/behavior stays the biggest factor in fuel consumption.

Hi Kevin

Ok the car has been in....

With the power issue they have reset the ECU and hopefully that should sort it.

the average speed on the system was 22Mph and 28Mpg is correct if the Air Conditioning is on... Will have to test this as the Girlfriend drives it probably with it on and the windows down.

The cost i was quoted £75 they tried to charge me closer to £90 but make sure you get a quote, Also get a copy of the report as the back page tells you when the test was started and when it finished mine took 29 mins therefore only 30mins charge so i actually paid £49.99.

Quite chuffed actually

Hope all works out for you all

Hey PaulBB1

Ill make sure to ask them to reset my ECU. Also I want to make sure they tune the car to the local conditions. Although, it coming from Natal, I think its set for coastal conditions already.

My car is still under a maintenance warranty, so I wont have to pay for anything (hopefully)

Thanks

and ill let you know if I come right.

The ECU is the Focus adapts to driving styles, fuel, and conditions. At least on the ST. Shouldn't be any need at all to retune it

They also sometimes update the cpu's software, to the latest that usually has some fixes and stuff.

Haha grabbing an old post back to life :p

So i have focus 1.6 2008 as well

And hell it is heavy on the juice ?any updates on what to do?!
even driving normally or like a granny i seem to keep getting the same, was at ford and software is up to date and no faults found..

Mine feels like it loses power as well when pulling away, have to give it bit more gas to move or not die

Post your actual consumption figures and types of driving.

Manufacturer stats are notoriously bull**** and should be completely ignored. In fact just +2 for your own sanity.

Long road it comes to 13km per L
used 28L for 368km

in town not sure but way worse, round 8-9km per L

i dont speed or drive it in high refs ,long road i drive 110-120
town always speed limit if not slower ..

That's 7.6 l/100.

Quite reasonable and I would say perfectly normal. It's a small engine in a large body.

Manufacturer claims 7.2 l/100. That's usually at 100km/h on a rolling road with no inclines or weather conditions taken into account, so your figure of 7.6l is 100% on the money.
