Another tip: post your order/reference number on MyBB and some helpful telkom employees lurking here unofficially might assist you in speeding up the installation.

Excellent! I'll add it to the first post.

I think if people can start adding their ADSL setup tips, experiences, etc. to this thread, I'll keep the first post updated. We should be able to build up a nice guide.

Also include that you can apply for (A)DSL online too. By filling the online form on the Telkom site.

Don't you think this might take longer though? I'm always a bit reluctant to apply for things like this online. I've had too many situations where no one gets back to you after filling in an online form and then you have to phone the company in any case... after wasting a couple of days.

Does anyone know what the turn around time is when applying online as suggested by Khanya? How soon afterwards do you get the order number?

Online--phh, we are not there yet. Vodacom is prime example. There is a "call me back" section on their website--no one has called me yet (sent 3 call me backs in the last 3 weeks). OTH, smaller companies like SAINET and Afrihost have responded on same day.

I must say Telkom is pretty good with the "call me back" service they offer when you are on hold. I was holding on to speak to a techie in connection with activating my ADSL, and after being told my call would be answered in approximately 15 minutes, I chose that option and was phoned back exactly 15 minutes later :D

Weird thing is that you are not always offered this option...

I have applied for a self-install ADSL: I plugged my router in last night and the DSL light turned green...but I haven't heard anything from Telkom yet. I wonder if I could go ahead and do the verification.
(Ref no is 522830-31 is someone is interested:D)

If the DSL light comes on you should be able to do the verification. But maybe it would be best to phone telkom on 10219 and double check if you can proceed.

Otherwise just add the telkom guest account details in your routers setup and see if you can access http://www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl.

Nice guide man. Nine days is super quick and lucky from no line to ADSL.

Just gave them a call and they said I can proceed with the verification:D:D It is definitely worth giving them a call rather than waiting for them as the lady told me that they would probably have let me know on Monday that I can continue with the verification. Mine took 15 working days from no phone line to having ADSL.

heya i also need help in speeding up my application (gonna take at least 2 weeks just to confirm if i can even get a line!)

if anybody can help PLEASE DO it will be much appreciated, my ref is 11629933A

thanks

Might just as well try. My ref is 140730-12
Phone lines are already there, it basically just needs to be activated again so I can go apply for DSL.
