Hey guys, really need your help

On the 13th February 2013 (couple weeks ago only), I signed up a contract on the Vodacom data deal, 2gb + 2gb promotion (2gb + 2gb nightowl incl 3g stick).

Anyway, when I was in store, I specifically asked if it will cut off / stop when I have reached my cap, and she assured me it would.

Needless to say, it didn't. And since I was downloading some things, it went onto out of bundle rates, and now I owe an extra R500 on my account, a R500 that I definitely cannot afford :(

I complained to them and said i was misinformed, and said because of this i don't want to be charged for my out of bundle rates, and i also want to cancel my contract. But they said they need to charge me the early termination penalty, which is out of this world ridiculous.

Please help!! Is there nothing I can do since I only opened the contract a couple weeks ago??

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Unfortunately it's not easy getting out of a contract.

There's two things you can do :

1. Arrange with VC to pay the OOB rate off in installments over three (or more) months.
2. Borrow R500 from a rich uncle/friend/bank and pay it off.

Is this a 12 or 24 month contract?

Some advice, to late for you though: avoid contracts with these scumbag operators at all costs. Stick to prepaid packages. And next time read the fine print, or ask a friend/colleague/someone in the know. Never trust the words of a sales consultant, especially one that is in your face trying to close a sale. Their words and promises don't matter after you sign all the Ts & Cs. The contract is what is on paper. Next time, do your own investigations first, and only AFTER you are happy that you've covered all your bases, sign the agreement.

I feel for you buddy, but there is little you can do, except pay. You could perhaps see if the CPA could offer assistance, or try to cancel the contract on the grounds of poor coverage and speeds in the areas you need them.

Unfortunately for you, Vodacom are smart, in that their employees can say whatever they like, but the contract that you sign stipulates the terms and conditions. Check there. If there is no mention of how data out of bundle is treated, then you have a case - a long, uphill battle! If it does make mention of it, then you are stuffed!

These unscrupulous mobile operators will soon get what's coming.
