Hey peeps..

Customer is going 2 canada 2morrow evening.

He is on 4u prepaid.

According to vodacom's website the +- rate for roaming in canada is
+- R110 /MB on their Canada Rogers network..

I can't find any roaming vodacom agreement of R17.50 or such service.. - would it be better to try and get a sim card there or what are his options?

Just to access email and do banking.

i see canada is not on the roaming list for prepaid - that means it might not work?

AFAIK data roaming isn't possible on prepaid. At least that's what I was told when I tried to find out for someone else a couple of months ago.

seems prepaid does do roaming - but NOT cheap (R17.50) agreement NOT inplace...so it's Roger's R110/MB

AFAIK, Vodacom only has Prepaid Roaming Agreements in about 15 Countries. Canada isn't one of them.

You can check it here also.

It would be more cost effective to get a prepaid SIM on Canada's Network, instead of Roaming, IMO.

Yip ^^ - thx - i've contacted Rogers (canada) to ask for help with local prepaid sim - or have to give customer crashcourse in wifi tomorrow :)

Canada - Affordable Options.

I am not too sure where to post this(she is on vodacom 3g at the mo). IC please move if necessdary.

A friend of mine is going to Canada and thinks the 3g roaming is too expensive ie over R100 per megabyte.

Does Vodacom have cheaper options available or are there other alternatives.

Please help!

No need to move the thread - it is where it should be :).

The cheapest option would be to try and get a local sim there, unless there's a Vodafone network, then you can roam at ~R15/MB but I don't think there is in Canada.

I've just done some research on Canada roaming for my sister, basically Rogers is the only network that covers most of Canada and supports our GSM phones.

Roaming is ridiculously expensive, I suggest rather buying a prepaid card there. Take a look at eBay there is some people selling prepaid Rogers cards there, including airtime for good prices and they will post the card to your Canada destination, so its waiting for you when you arrive, or send it to SA for you your choice.

A prepaid sim though in a Rogers store will set you back between $40 to $50 Canadian dollars, I recomend the eBay option. If dealing on eBay make sure you buy from someone that has a good references.
