Think Otter was among the browsers I've tried previously and didn't quite like the design. Will give Avant a try though.Have a look at Avant or Otter browsers. Opera killed itself as far as I'm concerned.

Still love Chrome and works perfect for me.
I really do like how everything works in Chrome and the tight Google integration with my other devices but it's come to a point where it's painful to use.
I'm using version 40 on Mac OS and it's so slow, pages take long to load, takes long to open new tabs, uses a crap load of CPU when playing video (even native webm).
Jump on to Safari and it feels like I've upgraded my internet to a gigabit fibre connection plus no excessive CPU usage on video playback.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is it only a Mac thing?
I'm testing out Safari now for the next few days to see if I can adjust, so far so good.
The only reason I use Chrome is the seamless integration between my PC, Mac and Android devices.
Took a look and Otter is actually the project to recreate Opera. Was a bit buggy and flat when I used it but definitely something I will keep my eye on. Has a lot of potential.
I also liked the old Opera before the change to the Chrome engine
The original developers are doing this - still in Beta though

Guess you didn't rely on the features of the old Opera. What's so bad about the latest Opera? I use it as my main browser. Looks clean and modern, has the best Youtube addon of any browser, renders very well, is recognised as Chrome by websites which comes in very handy, syncs bookmarks, has an awesome landing page etc.
