Google launches browser

I kinda like this browser, Firefox has been chowing my memory a bit too much at times.

What i DO find great is the "Application Shortcuts" thing. Take a website, make it like an application [create shortcut on desktop] and you open -just- that in it's own window. Mozilla Prism had the same idea, but Firefox was a bit too bloated ...now this little browser..works great.

Also you'll notice , EACH TAB = own process in memory. That's why you can move around all the tabs into their own windows and/or combine them into one . So it will chow memory eventually , but unlike Firefox, you close a tab = clean that process out. Firefox seem to just grow and grow as you open tabs and then never seem to "release" until you close it completely.

I am however missing my add-ons, and i'm sorta dissapointed that they didn't integrated their whole GOOGLE thing into this already..i mean hellooo? I'm talking Google Toolbar basically, to see my mail i still need to actually now visit the website?

EDIT: just noticed because the browser is so lightweight, you can basically make your personalized google homepage [www.google.com/ig] where you add all your widgets [gmail/gtalk/calender] as a seperate Chrome App! And just let it hang there ...so maybe just a mindshift from "toolbars" to "web apps" .

I love Chrome...I'm using it now. As much as it pains to say it, I may just switch from Firefox. It uses much less memory, has nice little animation effects and looks nice too.
 
I like Chrome allot , but there is still minor things that should be fixed before I would consider it above Firefox.
 
One minor irritation that I've noticed is that clicking on Go to First Unread post takes me a few posts below the first unread post. Can't understand why? Going to named anchors anywhere else seems to work.

And, yeah, I'm missing my extensions. All I need are ad-block and web-developer toolbar. :)
 
I like the fact that the tabs are above right at the top. It makes the window feel more spacious.
 
Wow google just love screwing other companies over... ;)

what is best, they make it opensource. so those other companies can make something better if they are capable and by borrowing some code from webkit and the v8 engine.
 
true.. but some things i block aren't really ads per say, I use ad block plus + Element hide for firefox :-) but i must say, sometimes it flickers for a bit which had me always wondering if it actually loads and hides it or truly prevents download. That software you linked is not freeware tho, but it works pretty much like a proxy server with a good filter set.
 
Not bad at all, do need some add-ons still. I will be using FF until I can see a substantial benefit from using this browser. I don’t see any memory usage benefits over Firefox. I have three tabs open on both browsers and both uses more or less the same amount of ram, the only difference is that Chrome runs multiple instances which would mean that if one tab crashed it would not affect the whole browser, oh and googleupdate.exe is now also having some of my ram…:sick:
 
My first post from Chrome... very nice... just missing RSS/Live Bookmarks...
Less memory leaks means longer term stability and less memory... the benefits will be mainly for the power users IMO.
 
HMMM - who else is getting CPU usage of 40% constantly with chrome?

Ok - can't reproduce this now - had to do with the developer details /stats for nerds etc... gone when I closed that.
 
It's so much faster than FF, and noticeably faster then Opera. Have twice as many tabs open in Chrome, and it's using less then a quarter of ram then FF (with no plugins)...
 
Wow! I am blown away. The browser is lightning quick, clean and simply awesome. Love it when you open a new tab...simillar to Opera but the Recent bookmarks feature is cool too..

Me like.. Google is about to take on the world!
