Greeting and welcome to myBB...

Thanks for the feedback mith.

Could be possible for me to get one via a connection in the US but urgh the extra shipping charges is pushing the total to around R5800 (granted I also included a Google Nexus 5 bumper case if I end up ordering through Google Play).

Oh yes, that was another question. I'm a fan of a soft TPU case and a good screen protector. Any suggestions? See lots of Spigen cases on Amazon, but mostly on offer by third parties who doesn't ship internationally.

Almost got very excited there, but goodness their price :( Don't know if they are just inflating their prices heavily or their price is due to circumstances surrounding importing it on their own, but at least they are doing something other doesn't so kudos to them. It is just sad that at that price it doesn't make much sense to get a Nexus 5 as you are already close to an S4 (which is also senseless to get now imo as the S5 is around the corner).

...
On a side note, contacted LG South Africa but they won't be bringing it in either:

The Nexus 5, will not be included in the product portfolio for LG South Africa in Q4 as LG South Africa, will apply this period to launch and promote the new LG G2.

The G2 has been selected as a core focus product by all major carriers in South Africa, opting to partner with LGESA in marketing the G2.

We realize that there may be interest from local Consumers in a ‘Pure Google’ device, but at present all resources and business opportunities are rallied around the G2 and G Pro Series for South Africa.

That is actually true! At least they are bringing it in. I hope LG has someone roaming these forums...

LG will never budge for a handfully of people who want a pure experience...it doesn't make sense to go through the loops to do it for the market and they would have to bring it at a aggressive price like now to make it take off too...maybe next time haha but for now the G2 is their baby and with commercial software stealing the crowds nexus 5 is left to those loving androids pure offering

Its not mhl

Just did a quick read up on slimport. The say it's like an mhl without the need for plugging in usb power. Thing is, I've got an mhl cable working with my Note 3 and a S3 without needing to connect extra power. So I'm not sure what the difference between the two cables are?

Is there anyone in SA who actually has slimport adapters that we can use to output to HDMI?

Apart from wantitall, which is kookoo pricing, the only link i found is below which is also an import.
http://za.mobilefun.com/37046-analo...-adapter-for-slimport-smartphones-Reviews.htm

Am quite surprised that noone stocks it here?

I've been looking for those adapters, eventually gave because no one knew what I was talking about. Apparently the company that makes then only announced those adapters early this year if I recall correctly. I've tried a few cabling places, even tested a few MHL cables on my N4 without success.

Quite frustrating....

so it seems they are not exactly the same
they are not interchangeable for one
the slimport can output to vga, dvi or hdmi as well

Im not surprised you guys havent been able to find any as there are very few phones locally that use the slimport standard

Yep, I think Nexus 4 was the first phone to be honest.
