Corporate mail

@ Roger and the other lucky guys who have managed to get the nexus one so far. Will it be able to support corporate mail. Sepcifically in my instance we use intellisync (unforunately) and there is an app for winmo which enables this use on the device. Is there a way to still get my mail and sync my calendar with android. I'd rather ditch winmo if possibel.

1 - what do you guys use to make google give you the option to buy?
2 - is myus the cheapest way to get the phone in?

1. The only way is to use a proxy, find a USA proxy, then you will have no problem with it. Search in google :)
2. Yes, currently it is, i told my friend to buy it for me and post it, it cost R4400 and delivery is about $40, which is much lower when you compare to those people who are selling the N1 on bidorbuy (R6.5k-R8k), with my us, it probably will cost you round about +-R6k

I'm also planning on getting a friend to send it to me. If they declare it as a gift do you still have the customs issue? R4400 + 40$ comes to below R5k. Is that what you are paying?
 
can you guys who've got your nexus's (nexii ??) give us your thoughts on the nexus now that you've had a reasonable time to use it ... was it worth the effort to import them?

Did you have to do anything with settings to get it working, or is the current demo working "out of the box"?

lol jus got my phone...busy charging it, it got stuck by the customs, and unlucky me, they charged 850 VAT...it sucks...
but will give a thought after it charged and when i've fiddle with it...
 
with respect to the proxies, how can you be sure your credit card details are safe?

Sure it does - theres the option to sync work mail on the nexus via Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and it was very easy to get going. Work mails push through immediately if you want (you can change the frequency of sync). Also downloaded Google's calender sync on my pc which syncs your outlook calender to your google calender, and automatically pushed through to the phone. Everything syncs beautifully

it didn't take a lot of effort to be honest - if you have the cash (i was all in for 6k), its an awesome phone and while there are already some very cool apps out there, Android has amazing potential and we should see some truly amazing apps come out.

Couple of things I'll point out:

1) Android Market - currently no paid apps available in South Africa (or many countries worldwide). Sucks a bit. Been using SlideMe which has some cool paid apps but not nearly as many as whats available on the market

2) Battery Life - very dependent on use but if you're going to be constantly surfing the net on it with full brightness, its going to chow power. Theres a very cool widget that allows you to turn off wi-fi, bluetoth, gps, syncing and screen brightness thats great to extend the life of the battery. Pretty much what you would expect for a smartphone and its better than the iphone's battery life according to some testing i've read online. I plug it in every night before i hit the sack

3) If you're after a smartphone to play games, go with the iphone. otherwise it kicks the iphone's ass in virtually every other area. Having said that, got some very cool 3d games like raging thunder and speed forge 3D, and they run super smooth. If game developers put in as much effort into android games as they do with the iphone, it would be killer.

4) the screen sucks in daylight. even on full brightness. pretty irritating when you want to take a picture or something.

5) apps like facebook, maps, gmail, outlook mail, goggles, google talk etc ROCK on this phone.

6) the processor is so quick, apps open up in a flash. seriously. no waiting time whatsoever. And all this with multitasking so you can easily flip between apps. Pretty amazing

7) flash is coming to the nexus one and other devices (except iphone..). Check out this link : http://www.computerweekly.com/Artic...orld-congress-google-nexus-one-gets-flash.htm . This is going to be HUGE

Anyway i can think of loads more but in short, there's lots to love. Best phone i've ever owned (although i used to have a blackberry before which was total ass)

I had an issue with the version i downloaded the first time, because it wouldnt work in landscape. I downloaded a new version that supported both recently, it works perfectly. The only thing i had to do was edit the keyboard settings to allow Swype to be my default input, so it works with anything and everything that you can input on the phone.

Thanks - my N1 only arriving March 13, but I'm trying to get apps and such ready for when it does.
 
Im still confused on this phone or the N900. Ive always used a Nokia scared to take a chance with HTC

Great, thanks for that . We use groupwise on my end through...not sure if I can get the calendar to sync, there must be a workaround somehow. Groupwise to outlook to google to phone probably.

Lastly on the apps - Is there no way to get the paid apps yet? is it carrier specific and cant you download paid apps on the net?

Really want one of these bad boys.
