Google RCS?

At least now the Vodacom is making some kind of an effort based on this article from Jan

@Ockie - @Jan Thank you, for the assistance in resolving this RCS matter.
It appears as if DISQUS is blocking all comments around RCS at the moment.
The question: The consumer of mobile communications in the RSA do now in terms of choices in messaging services?
The facts indicate that the RSA only has two OEM (Red and Yellow) providers with the rest as RESELLERS, all of them monetize their services to employ lots of staff. It is clear that "Smoke and Mirror" offers are the order of the day with PROMOTIONAL offers only. Wendy Knowler has often commented how these networks hide the real pricing.
RSA Messaging services:-
1) The default TEXT/SMS Reliable service at cost in the RSA, free by overseas networks and the USA users in great numbers.
2) The IM(WhatsApp, Messenger,Signal and Google RCS etc) services that society in general using all sorts of peer pressure to force change away from TEXT.
Yes to change with the IM as baked into the device, not an add on extra on "So Called FREE" Bull Sugar and Ice Tea stuff where the customer is the market.
Remember corporates use "Spinning" like politicians to fool the customer.

@Jan Just a heads-up. It is still not working. :(. If this is Apple related, fck them. Why turn it off for everyone? Keep it working between Jibe servers etc. When Apple signs the agreement, then deploy. You are breaking it for everyone because of Apple?????

Samsung hypes up RCS messaging now that iOS supports it

Samsung and other Android devices have supported RCS (Rich Communication Services) for several years, and finally, iPhones are joining the party.

Apple devices with iOS 18.1 also support the service, which is the cross-platform successor to SMS and MMS. Samsung posted several videos showcasing its benefits.

The new standard allows for quick sharing of high-quality photos, easy reactions to other messages and enhanced group chats with a simple click.

Thank you, it seems all things take longer with Vodacom....! We live in hope.

Let’s get some clarity, Android phones using Google Messages are ended to end encrypted is not part of the RCS Universal Profile but is built by Google for their app. RCS messages where at least one participant is using an iPhone are not encrypted.

GSMA announced they are working to bring the RCS standard (Universal Profile). Historically, Google is fast to adopt the new features of RCS and iPhone are using the bare minimum. We're going to see what happens.

Wondering why our local MTN, Vodacom are dragging their feet in allowing RCS via Mobile data....!

@Ockie - Just wondering about the progress at Vodacom around promises and explanations by Vodacom ECLO and many other staff please?
It seems we can ONLY hope that 2025 resolves any issues with this service...!!
Question: Are VODACOM subscribers using Mobile Data ever going to access Google RCS services at any stage, as requests have been requested since August 2024?
