I've had my iPhone 5 for about 10 months and now in the last month or two the screen has developed a slight green glow all around the perimeter of the screen - I tried to take a photo of it - see the attached.

Has anyone ever come across an issue like this before?

Ahhhh the legendary inter dimensional communication device. The phone of the gods.

Does the glow become worse as the device gets hotter? If your device were just turned on, after an hour or so, of inactivity is the glow still visible?

Not particularly - seems to be there permanently, whether 'hot' or 'cold' / just booted up or running for a while..

It's about 2mm wide and only visible with white or light backgrounds - it runs all around the perimeter of the screen.

Its not a problem with your iphone. Theyre never at fault. There is a problem with your eyes.

Had the same issue. I think it's the glue. Cell c gave me a new phone. (Refurb).
