But they do send you an sms when you've reached 80%. But you can monitor your BW usage with the adapter and it is acurate.:D

Hi
The original BW monitor we installed was not user friendly and created more questions than answers.
We have upgraded it and will be issuing instructions to our clients early next month on how to access it.

Probably an upgrade of some kind somewhere. Haven't had that kind of problems for a long time. Speeds somewhat slower at times the past few days but smooth sailing otherwise.

Keep it up Screamer!:D

Kraai, if you follow this thread back you woulda done this already.

Since taking things up with Howzit I had lot less hassles. Most hassles were administrative.

Bet you'll be sorted in no time.:D

They have a hat. Called the Blame Hat.
And in it, are names of various unrelated ISPs.

It was Datapro's turn today

Hi howzit, uhmmm, that is the reason given by your agent here. I don't even know what datapro is, for that matter. Connections became better during late morning, and is fine now.

However, your local agent also mentioned he is awaiting a new router, that will make connections even better. When will this be delivered?

Can you also clarify, why are we all at Harrismith connected via IS Satellite, and not their fiber optic? Surely you know that the satellite story makes things worse? The per gig price screamer is asking, does not warrant a satellite connection, rather a fiber optic for that price then.

I must admit, since my move to the farm, as I have no other choice on my connection to the internet, as screamer is the only one in my remote oppie plaas area, There really is not any serious issues with them so far, and speeds are generally not bad.

Thats the you just highlighted both the benefit and drawback of wireless technology. Ease of deployment in areas where there is no other option and inconsistant speeds.

I have been wireless for quite some time now.

Initially there were lots and lots of problems. It felt as if my moaning and bithcing was ignored.

But it does seem that when GWI became Screamer their service also improved. Not long after the change my hassles got sorted out and the bandwidth meter they're testing shows they want to give the clients what they want.

I haven't been on the roof for a long time.:D

Well I had my Screamer WiFi service installed yesterday and so far I am overall impressed with the service, couple of teething problems but I am sure they will get sorted soon.

I placed my order on Monday afternoon and it was installed two days later, great service in my book.

Download speeds and pings were great for the most part, I went through an hour of terrible speeds from between 21:30 and 10:30 last night. When I tested it looked like my pings to the second hop (fourways tower is assume)were elevated from around 2ms to as high as 848ms. This made gaming and surfing useless.

I logged this with support and I was instructed to reboot the radio, seriously doubt that this will help the problem.

Anyone have any ideas what could cause this? Could it be congestion on the base station? After 10:30 everything was perfect again, solid 2ms - 5ms to the tower.

Hi Kraai

If you do have problems please PM me and I will try and sort you out. When Screamer first took over the GWI network we did a quick upgrade to some of the outlying towns to try and make sure our networks there remained relatively stable. Since then we have concentrated on revamping the core network at each town.
We have just started in Harrismith and clients closest to the core can now get better speeds and voice. The routers controls and central computer systems in Harrismith are due to be upgraded soon but I can't promise that the fringes of the network will get much attention because at the end of the day there is an economic factor to consider as well. You should however benefit from the core systems upgrade.

I must remember to put the Pta WUG's interference into that hat. ;)

Harrismith Downgrade ...

Harrismith was supposed to be upgraded on Friday... then a tower went down on Saturday (Mt Paul?), and we only just came back online (monday 10h30)

So I tested it and I can ping HRS-Main1 (10.1.120.254) - 0% packet loss
But if I ping the gateway in Harrismith(10.1.120.1) I get 26% packet loss -

Something is not lekker when you are promised an upgrade and the service deteriorates...
