I am using ADSL now.

Well aparently the're going to upgrade to "licensed spectrum" over here and I have an idea that's when things will start going right.

They gav e me credit for this month as I had so much k@k this month.

If they can sort things out I'll be happy to continue using they're service.

Face it, it's one of the most cost effective connections availible.

The problem is when you use unlicensed radio spectrum for commercial purposes. I don't think its stable enough to supply a connection for which you are going to charge somebody for.:D

The technician came over on Friday afternoon around 6pm to try and tune my router as there's no connection, but obviously there's nothing he/they can do before their tower upgrade is finished next week Monday or Tuesday..... I prefer to have a more stable internet connection and that's why I moved to ADSL, there are some good ADSL deals out there which will let me do what I wanted at a cost effective way.

I'm in Newcastle, KZN, on a 128k uncapped connection for R350pm + R100 Equipment rental. (R450pm total). It's been two months now, and I've only had two days of downtime which was followed by 2 days where web pages had problems loading(but torrents worked fine). Other than that I'm getting a steady 1.2gb downloaded a day and 1gig uploaded. Have torrents running all day and they max the connection out(16kb/s down and up). I pretty much only stop them when i want to surf or play WoW(getting 600-700ms latency), or if I'm downloading a file via http. I'm running a bandwidth monitor and I'm on almost 60gb now(2months). So its goin pretty well from this end. Hope it stays this way. It feels like its too good to be true and I have a constant feeling in the pit of my stomach that someone's gonna say "hey, he's actually gettin a good deal, someone put an end to that!" lol. Is the new Seacom underwater cable thats comin in June next year gonna make uncapped more of a sure thing?

??? They have a 128k uncapped package on their site. I'm not sure about the pricing but they say it is unshaped so probably needs a WiMax CPE.

Bye bye Screamer

I am with Harrismith branch - just had an e-mail of their intention to cancel their contract with Screamer/GWI.

... a great deal of pressure has been placed on the original
GWI directors to perform. This has had a number of negative results to
the branches like our selves...

...We are committed to improving the level of service, by
increasing speeds and reducing problems being experienced, and have
therefore entered into an agreement with another well established,
highly professional Wireless Internet service provider with the
necessary licences in place. Their level of technical expertise has
encouraged us greatly, knowing that this will impact very positively
on our operation here

Apparently the new agreement is with Megasurf.

High sites in Stellenbosch, Somerset West, Strand, Gordon's Bay, Hermanus,Parys, Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging and Sasolburg

bye bye screamer/gwi - just hope the transition is not too bumpy.

These fuxking losers came to my place today, spent 3 hours and eish, they found the problem is with their side. I told them before, WTF problem do I have here if it was all working and suddently just not working anymore. Fortunately I am on ADSL now, told my dad to get ADSL too, I will keep my CPE as I paid for it and join WUG when I have a chance.
