At this stage there's no alternative. But things are looking up, with neotel and telkom wimax become possibillities in the near future.

People with access to reliable inexpensive broadband don't know how lucky they are.:D

Let me explain what I have and then you judge me lucky/unlucky, ok?

First of all, I will NEVER EVER use Telscum.
I was with GWISA for a while, but they are tossers.

So now, I use a HSDPA USB Modem, buy 2Gig a month prepaid Databundle, and I am fixed.
With my laptop, I am even mobile with my internet.
The speed is better than Gwisa could ever achieve on a fixed line.

Am I Lucky?

Edit: The 2Gig bundle costs me R389 per month.

Zerowire is the crap GWI sold to everyone in PTA. It is a 2.4ghz antenna with a router built-in

I can't remember everything. But I think you use your username and password to login.

Then you have to enter the IP adresses.

I'll see if I can find the manual somewhere. PM me your e-mail and I'll send it on.:D

I think you change the MTU and DNS settings.
Internet very unstable today, lots of pages not loading, anyone?

True, if I remember correctly the MTU had to be 1480 and my DNS was 10-0-96-10.

But that could be different in your area (DNS).:D

I've signed up with Screamer on a 128k uncapped account for R350 a month and managed just over 29gb that first month. There wasn't a day that I wasn't getting a full 16kb/s. Granted I have to use encryption for torrents, and they seldom get good speeds, I just enqueued about ten of them and their combined speed maxed out the connection. So far so good.

Welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you're in the minority here, being a satisfied customer.
Do you mind telling us what equipment they've given you, so we can figure out if you're on this "new" network of theirs...

Well maybe we should all go for the 128 package, as they can not seem to manage a higher speed.

I am paying R850 a month for what's supposed to be a 256kbps line.:D
