TLC and VNAND are doing wonders for cost, although most are still on SATA interfaces. It would be nice to see more cheap high capacity drives being released on NVMe.

I suppose AMD+Intel need to start designing their chipsets and CPUs with more PCIe lanes and motherboard manufacturers need to provide more M.2 NVMe slots.

I’d look at something bigger TBH. Yes these machines are made great but they also not made to run beyond your ordinary household size as frequently as your team will be running it.

I just use our office machine to compare we have a pretty awesome machine but even that thing needs to be serviced regularly and requires some upkeep. Think the worst thing would be splitting the price of this machine and then landing up with a half working machine most of the time.

looking for a Laptop that can handle CAD for my brother...

I'm thinking a refurbished i5 or i7 with 8GB ram should do the trick.

Any recommendations?

And also what price range is good

Thanks

What level of cad? Or what programs if you know?

I managed with an i3. But if it's more demanding stuff your gonna need a graphics card.
