Hi Everyone,

There are a lot of guys selling seemingly bargin price flash drives around Cape Town at the moment. I mean R100 for a 32Gb Kingston flash drive? Too good to be true? It sure is! It looks like the real deal, sealed in the packet, the packaging looks genuine but if you try and reformat it in your PC it won't format and becomes trash. It's a real case of if it seems too good to be true, it usually is.

A friend went and did this, bought one from the side of the road.
Sealed and all.
Can never see the full 32GB, slow as a bitch to read and write anything to, unable to format - doesn't get anymore Fong Kong than that.

I'd never buy tech from the side of the road.
If I need Kingston flash drives on the cheap - Esquire!

Since posting my original thread about cheap Kingston flash drives I've done some seaching on Google and it apears these have been around on eBay for sometime. Just type in 'fake flash drives' in Google and read the many stories about them!

I know its old news but this is just an update, Makro is still having a sale on the Western Digital 2TB External for R999, Woodmead still has a few.

And its way simple to remove the casing, no breaking clips anymore. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCS8ui-6WZY - How to remove the HDD)

Went to Crown Mines Yesterday... They were out of stock...

Noted with a NOTE

What is the spec of this drive? Good price I guess for now but obviously not if you compare to before the floods in Thailand when a 2TB HDD was under R700 at Takealot.

They are WD20EARX if I recall correctly

The Price is really good compared to what you can get now, most online store, internal 2TB are going for R1200 odd.
Also, who knows how long it will be till they reach to the R1k mark and less, could be a month, it could be more, if you looking for a drive right now, it's definitely worth it
