Best I could find in a quick search is about R3000, so that seems quite good

While that does look good, I'd prefer the fruit companies product. Buying for my <10 nieces, they already have Android tablets for school but prefer iPads for play.

Apple has a strict "Premium Reseller" programme, so Orange probably didnt make the cut

I would go through iStore, as you can buy iCare (Especially for a <10 Neice) - they can then drop it and iStore will replace it for you (3 times).

The one in the picture is a 8 inch Galaxy Note which def doesn't have 2k screen.
The one in your link is the Galaxy Pro 8.4.

Yeah the iPad with retina directly from the iStore seems the best option at R5200. Will most definitely be taking it with iCare.
