Has Rain gotten slower for you?

Same here seems to show up when doing a manual network search but unable to connect. Died around 23:30 here.

Had to restart my router at 7am this morning but then it worked. Contacted the rain customer care yesterday about my slow speeds. They said they'll restart my account. So instead of getting 0.6mbps I get between 3 and 4 mbps.

I think they only throttle the 4G uncapped sims. I have a pay as u go sim and an uncapped sim. did a speed test this morning the pay as u go sim was doing 16mbs and the uncapped sim less than 1mbs. uncapped totally unusable. if it does not improve will not be renewing the uncapped.

I usually bitch a moan about Rain ...so yesterday their top customer support guy Faiz called me and we discussed my issues over a 20 minute phone call...they called me back after i left a ticket at their support site....magically overnight all my speeds are up and 5g CPE is working like the day they installed it i average 200-250 Mbps and my other complaint upload speed was fixed...Rain can fix things when there on the right program amazing how when thing just work there are no complaints.:):thumbsup:

rain shaping everything, cant even use my vpn for work, they seem to limit von to 4 meg,

My speeds were bad during the last week of March and I was contacted by Rain customer service. I don't know what they did on their side but the speeds were good again. Few days later I had problems with the sim card and it was replaced on 8 April and since then I cannot even get a signal. Router light stays red.

Several queries later this is their response

We have checked your connection and the site you are connected to, and it’s us not you. The lockdown has caused congestion on certain towers which was impossible to plan for, and unfortunately your are connecting to one of those towers. Given the COVID-19 epidemic, this is a phenomenon that is being experienced by networks all over the world.

Unfortunately this is not something we can solve quickly, and even more so during this lockdown period. This means we cannot remedy your situation now. If you believe the service is not workable, rain will refund you the costs of the service since the lockdown and cancel your service.

We will continue to improve capacity rapidly as soon as the lockdown regulations are relaxed. We hope to see you back as a client then.

Please confirm if you wish for us to cancel your service and refund you.

There are at least 2-3 towers in my area that Rain uses. Why can I not connect to one of the other towers ? If I insert a Rain sim card of someone else in my router it connects although the speeds are not that great.

Hi Guys, apologies if I am posting this in the wrong forum. I have 2 Rain Sim cards, one Unlimited Off Peak and one 4G Uncapped 24/7 which was recently upgraded from Unlimited Off Peak. The 4G Uncapped 24/7 was used in a Huawei B315 Router in Atok, a small town in Limpopo and tested 10 mbps up and 10 mbps down. I was there for a week for work. Now when I got back to Polokwane the speeds dropped to 0.5 down and 0.2 up. I tried to put the card in my Samsung S8 which has always given me with the Unlimited Off Peak card 80mbps+ at the exact location, also showing me a speed test of maybe 1 down and 0.5 up. We tested this with the 4G Uncapped 24/7 card and got exactly the same 0.5 down and 0.2 up. Now my question is, how can this be the almost none existent speeds I get in Polokwane, when I get 10 mbps in a small town. Is the towers I connect to congested or what can the problem be? I have taken the issue up with Rain and still awaiting their reply. Thank you.

Pretty sure it is a congested tower, I can barely use rain during the day on the tower near me too while at my cousins house I get full speed all day

Thank you, I also think this is tower related, I just hope they fix this soon as we are paying for a service we cannot use. Full speed at other locations, but at home almost none existent.

There is no way to actually fix it unless they put up more towers near you which isnt likely, i'm waiting for lockdown to end for my speeds to hopefully go back to normal. I have tons of tickets and nobody have been able to assist since the support have no clue what's going on at all, all they say is there is nothing wrong on their side.

Yes, maybe after the lockdown has ended, things will get back to normal. I don't think Rain made provision for the amount of people connecting to the same towers now that they stay and work from home. The network simply cannot take all the strain. on top of that they are still selling tons of 4G sims and 5G packages. I also have lots of open tickets. Hope for a response.
