Hi,

I recently got a Dlink 2640u and was wondering what these HEC and Super frame errors are.

CRC, FEC and HEC errors usually indicate noise problems on your line. In your case the downstream attenuation is very high and there may be a lot of moisture about due to rain so this can be expected. You should try to monitor the situation over a long period of time to determine how fast the errors are accumulating. Another possibility is that your router is not calculating them correctly which is sometimes the case. Your router is currently managing to correct the errors but it may not always be able to if the conditions deteriorate further. Keep an eye on the uncorrectable errors.

Yeah you shouldn't really be getting all those errors given you're only on a 2Meg line, unless it's very close to your maximum.
How long has your router been on for?

Those errors are more common (for us) if we're syncing at 10Megs or thereabouts, due to the increased sensitivity to noise that ADSL2+ has.

Hey, thanks for the replies. I got this router yesterday because i think my netgear packed up, and i have been having wierd packet loss issues but my latency has been fine. Telkom also "fixed" my congestion issue about 2 months ago, and i prematurely upgraded to 2mb, but since then i have had constant packet loss, which gets worse at night.

My noise margin also fluctuates but there's no crackling or anything on the phone. Does this point more toward the exchange or my line?

Here are some traceroute stats i did at around 9pm last night to afrihost.co.za and facebook.com.

HEC errors point towards the area between your router and the exchange, but in most likeliness it's your line.
