"Help me fix my internet" report tool

Hi Zertop, thanks for this great tool! Could you have a look at these results please and let me know what your expert opinion is? My line recently(last week) got upgraded to 10m from 4m but something is wrong with performance/speed and I need to know if it is the ISP or my line. (I have upgraded my account to 10m and it is supposed to be unshaped)

Heyo!

It doesn't look like this is a line issue from the results :) Which is a good thing! But it seems that the errors start while on your ISP (Presumably Afrihost?). Could you run the following for me please. Just place it into an empty folder and attach the generated results.txt file once completed (might take quite a while). Please either attach the file or upload the contents to pastebin.com :)

Hmm..

Seems about a 10% Packet loss :/ (Indicates some form of line issue) How does the line perform when using a different ISP?

Z :)

It seems to be performing badly on a capped web africa 2gb account as well. Trying to do a speed test but it just gets stuck while doing it. Webpages are crawling. I tested with it previously and it seemed to be performing well but it has has gone bad as well.

Looks the same :/

Your best bet would be to report an exchange/line issue for high pings and packet loss :)

Thanks Zertop, will report it to Telkom.
BTW speed test on Web Africa finally completed:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 212 kbps (26.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 619 kbps (77.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 58 ms

The only thing that confuses me is if I load up the Telkom guest account and do a speed test - everything seems fine:

Download Speed: 8539 kbps (1067.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 843 kbps (105.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Whoops missed this post completely!

If the telkom guest account is working fine - that points to an ISP issue o_O (which completely contradicts the results before :D )

Np Zertop! At around 4pm my internet suddenly started flying...I am convinced it's an ISP issue - problem is that Afrihost says it's telkom and telkom says it's afrihost. (I logged tickets with both). Any way, thanks for helping us out here on the forums I am sure everyone appreciates it :)

Okay :D Well the best thing would be to keep communicating with them until you get your answer :P

No problem, always happy to help :)

Cape town line flapping?

Hi Zertop

Great program, thanks for all your work :)

Down in Cape town and my bro-in-law complains of 'line flapping'.
Is this the case? He's on Telkom 4 meg capped.

Hi Zertop

Great program, thanks for all your work :)

Down in Cape town and my bro-in-law complains of 'line flapping'.
Is this the case? He's on Telkom 4 meg capped.

Looks fine to me (line wise). Please would you ask him to run my second tool in my sig :) You can post the results here :D

Z

Thanks Z

So far results txt is giving the following (Am I too early to report here, is there a finished prompt? :))

Pinging 105.236.13.65 with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Ad nauseam :)

I see that speedtest local results are almost 9 mbps down on average for CPT and JHB, but drop down to 0,5 mbps for international.
So this must be the culprit.
Must I ask Telkom for port reset?
Funny thing is, they are only paying for a 4 meg line...and get 10 mbps local speed according to ADSL tracker and these results:confused:
Should I request Telkom to lower the line speed on the profile back down to 4 mbps? Just kidding :)
Thanks

Uhm... yea maybe theres an issue with the account :/

Line shouldnt be timing out though - but that's probably a firewall blocking it. Cant see much wrong with the line.

Hey Everyone!

Ive created a tool to help people run diagnostics on their internet. Basically, it runs an International and Local Speedtest as well as an International and Local tracert. The speedtests use a freely available tool called "axel" to run an accelerated download (http://freecode.com/projects/axel). In my opinion, this is the best way to get an accurate download reading. The script downloads randomly generated zip files, which are deleted as soon as they are finished downloading :D. If you have any other suggestions, PM me and I will see what I can do :)

Running it once will give you everything you need to post on the forum. It is not something that needs to be installed - you just download and run. You can either run the EXE version, which just extracts and runs the ZIP version from temp, or run the ZIP Version, which requires you to open the bat file.

I have also created a "Is it my Line?" Tool, which pings the last hop on Telkom's network in order to see whether there is an exchange/line fault or an ISP issue. Please find that tool HERE

I am very strict with regards to malware, and will never distribute something that potentially has any form of harmful file attached to it. You are free to test the downloads yourself, but I assure you, there is nothing malicious inside the file.

EXE (Easy) - http://zertop.com/files/DiagnosticsTool/Windows/Current/diagnostics.exe
ZIP (Advanced-ish) - http://zertop.com/files/DiagnosticsTool/Windows/Current/diagnostics.zip

Great Tool, Thank You !

Strange diagnostics.exe keeps being deleted once downloaded..
Stupid Symantec just wipes it without restore option...
