Hi

I'm having problems with poor internet speeds when i connect one of my laptops via wifi. I'm on a 4mbps telkom ADSL line.

If i connect an ethernet cable from the router to the laptop the connectivity is at a level i expect, however with with wifi there's a drastic drop. (3.5 mbps on cable vs 0.5 mbps via wifi)

I thought it was the router but i've got 2 other laptops and the internet speeds are the same irrespective of whether i connect via wifi or ethernet cable.

I have updated the WLAN adapter driver but still no joy. This is fairly new laptop, 4 months olds. I'm not sure what could be throttling my speeds, does anyone have an idea or a suggestion of what i might look at?

What standard of 802.11 does your laptop use? A/b/g/n? This will determine the max speed that your laptop can use the wifi. "N" being the fastest of the lot

Thanks for responding.

From what i can see from the wifi adapter properties under "wireless mode" there are 3 options
- Auto (currently set on this option)
- IEEE 802.11b
- IEEE 802.11b/g

The wifi adapter has the following name "Realtek RTL8723BE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC"

I have now set it on the b/g level and it's now streaming at the correct speed!
Thanks for your post, it's solved my predicament! Gotta love myBB

Is it possible by say updating the driver to get a higher wireless standard e.g. 802.11n? From the WLAN adapter name doesn't it suggest that i can get that?

Glad to help

If the device does not support 802.11n drivers won't be able to change anything on that device. The only way to be able to use it is to upgrade to a wireless card that supports 802.11n wireless networks
