My line was upped to 1mb and while I am still on a 512 Mweb uncapped package I have been noticing higher speeds (double in fact). Think it is possible that Mweb are also upgrading their 512 customers to 1mb free of charge?

Got this email last week from them...
Code:
Enjoy up to double the speed at no extra cost.

Dear MWEB Customer

From June 2011 your Uncapped ADSL account will be upgraded from 512Kbps to 1Mbps at no additional cost. So you’ll be able to enjoy download speeds which could be up to double as fast* as your current speed, for FREE.

This means that you can now download your favourite music and video clips faster. Enjoy a faster internet with MWEB’s Uncapped ADSL.

Call MWEB on 08600 32000 if you’d like to find out more.

Kind regards,
The MWEB Team
Only problem is since the 1st June all my speeds have halved from 512 to 256 :(

Guess I'm one of the lucky few:

Upstream 831900
Downstream 10010100

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin 19.5 dB 6.0 dB
Line Attenuation 14.0 dB 9.0 dB
CRC Errors 0 0
Latency Fast Fast

Area: Montana, Pretoria
:D

I am still stuck on 4 meg line and apparently telkom are not interested in upgrading my exchange since it isn't congested and even being in the business central they still don't care about the business' with adsl.

Yet the exchange which mostly only services residential people gets upgraded to 10 megs :p.

according to telkom , could only upgrade to 6mb/s..sux!

i suppose its still faster than the 4mb/s i had before.....10mb would have been nicer!:o

Telkom has so many telephone no's! It's driving me crazy!!! One will tell me: yes, you are eligible for 10mbps, but confirm with this no. Call the next no: No, max speed is 4mbps, but confirm with this no: Call the next no: Yes, you are elibile for 10mbps!!!! :(

This is insane!!! Who do I trust? On their website it shows I am eligible? With the recent non-decrease in price and pathetic increase in data, I am seriously considering going down to 1mbps.

Check your phone number over here

Phone and demand for a higher profile.

Just hope other users can mention the number to phone over here :/.

Thanks Yuu! On the link it shows that I should be getting 10mbps as well. Still Telkom insist it is not enabled? So irritating!

10Mbps Exchanges

One point to note - just because http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/search/phone/ shows your exchange is 10Mbps enabled does not mean all lines in that exchange have that capability. Each exchange connects to multiple number ranges and it appears that in some exchanges some of the incoming lines connect to 10Mbps capable equipment and some connect to older non-10Mbps kit.
In the exchange I connect to I can only get 4Mbps even though the exchange is 10Mbps enabled, because the DSLAM my area connects to is not 10Mbps but rather 4Mbps.

This might be why Telkom tell you you cannot get 10Mbps even is the exchange shows that capability.

To check this, use the Telkom Broadband checker (secureapp.telkom.co.za) - will show you maximum your specific number can attain.

This is the problem I have. I wonder if it's possible to ask Telkom to plug one in to the newer DSLAM in the same exchange? Or is it physically impossible?

It shows 10meg on both the Telkom site as well as the site listed above.

But Telkom says that it is being upgraded to 10meg.

Don't know when that will ever happen!

Hows that a terrible ping? How would person go about sorting out ping issues? My ping hangs around there and at times higher :( What is your ping at? @Shred

My local ping is 11ms. What ISP are you using?
