How can 8ta improve?

Hi,
I am a prepaid bundle user, 60Gb 365 days.
I primarily use the wireless connection from my home computer and tablets - Fourways area.
I find the connection is erratic - continuously swops from high to low speeds and can even drop out completely for extended periods.
Is does also seem to be modem dependent, an old E220 seems to work best.
I travel regularly to the Dullstroom area and the Ballito/Shaka's Rock area.
Coverage in both these areas is poor or non-existent.
I have applied to be part of the LTE trial - please make sure I am selected!!

I recommended this to 8ta on their facebook page earlier this year 2 months before Vodacom beat them with their Smart Plans. 8ta definitely needs to offer a similar more customizable contract plan.
Including cheap data predominantly over voice calls and customizable contract length.
My perfect contract would be 1 or 2 GB data, voice and sms worth R150. I do not mind paying more for voice calls as I use data a lot more than voice calls.

Also 8ta should have the iPHONE 5 as soon as it can while its relevant, not like cell c years later! Although I am not familiar with how ICASA or what other players could affect how soon 8ta stocks an iPhone.

Besides those 2 points. I LOVE 8ta, from service to social interaction to the stores, people, brand and the Promo 5 :)
 
I would like to see an offering similar to their 60+60GB but with half the data. Something like 30+30GB for R900. I don't need 120GB of data but I was pretty much forced to buy it as no other prepaid offering came close with regards to cost per GB. Other people however will look elsewhere as they might not be able to pay the initial R1800 fee.

Monthly SMS notifications of my remaining data balance would also be nice.

As far as I understand, the welcome data is calculated to the amount of data you are contracted for 1 month divided by 30 days. So if you activate a new contract on the 15th, you should get about half of the data you're signed up for free. The normal data bundle will only commence in the new month. So next time open a contract earlier in the month to benefit from the welcome bonus data ;)
 
Dual sim is needed.
And when adding a contract to my online account, I do not always have access to SMS. So please change it to use other options as well to confirm that the number must be added. Case in point, when adding my iPad to my account, I had to put my sim into a friends iPhone to get the sms.
 
Smaller long term (365 days) bundles. From 3GB to 24GB. 60+60Gig is overkill for many.
 
Your android app needs more flexibility. I want to see all my balances with all my SIM cards not just the SIM on my phone. I wanna use your app to log into my account and see all my Sim cards.
 
Which new products would you like to see?
Smaller data bundles.
Data SIMs: share data bundles between multiple devices, e.g. a SIM in your mobile, a SIM in your modem and a SIM in your tablet all sharing the same data bundle.

Are there areas where 8ta can improve its support?
Not really support, but:
Make sure sales staff understand when SIMs need to be activate for 3G or allowed to register on the home network, and communicate this to the customer clearly.
Support on MyBroadband is excellent!

Where do you think the company is losing ground against its competitors?
Coverage and voice products.
 
I would like to see coverage in KZN, Kwa Dukuza(Stanger). Also better coverage in Roodepoort, Allen's Nek. Also I think 8ta loses out a lot because they don't have the twin SIM card thing like Vodacom. For example, if I buy a data bundle for my iPad and keep the SIM card in there, I would also like another SIM card with the same number and data bundle linked to use in my USB modem.

This is my biggest issue, there are even some dark spots in the middle of the northern suburbs! Some days my signal drops and comes back up at 25%. Understandably it's because I live in the shadow of a hill; however, on the otherside, the signal is impeccable because that is where the tower is located.

Coverage is my biggest issue. some towers seem to be spread too widely, so when the cell "sweats" I lose connectivity at home.

When it works I am very happy and find it value for money.

I have only had good dealings with 8ta, so can't really comment on suggestions but I can give hints on where I wish they would stand in the future.

1st off, would be to increase their coverage. Only thing that is prohibiting me from getting an 8ta voice, is the uncertainty of "will I have signal"

2nd, Bigger usage packages, as the internet developed, and the 3GB joins the 640kb saying in the museum of phrases, we need bigger packages to surf youtube indefinatly.

3rd off, I would like to see higher end consumer electronic products, that either undercut or are very competitive in price, bundled with either data or voice products.

4th and last point, please increase your backhaul. In my neighbourhood, telkom refuses to replace the stolen copper lines after the 37th theft, and a lot of my neigfhbours have gotten 8ta. The tower we connect to only has a 20MB backhaul link, so @ peak times it feels a bit congested and slow.

One big point for me is no access at all in Potchefstroom. I am there every second weekend and have to use my phone from a different provider to get any access at all. Expand there, there are many students (read as, future big earn/spenders) in the area and 8ta is a no-show.

Me second concern is hugely fluctuating speeds. Time of day is understandable but they need to balance the bandwidth usage more so that there aren't complete speed losses at times.

I think 8ta is really quite good despite what many say. I have used it across Johannesburg and Pretoria with good results. With their decent prices (the 5 deal of 10+10gigs at R300) will keep me as a client for years to come.

  • Which new products would you like to see?

    Products like the 10GB a month on pre-paid.

    LTE trials be done with existing customers in exsting coverage areas, and not just be a general public thing in CBD areas.

  • Are there areas where 8ta can improve its support?

    Support has been decent

  • Can they make it easier for you to buy their products?

    It was easy enough to go to a store. Being able to do most of the work online would be better though.

  • Where do you think the company is losing ground against its competitors?

    Signing people up for 24 months. Give more freedom in terms of sign-up periods and data bundles.

8.ta has come leaps and bounds in this area, yes a greater variety at cheaper prices on it's data would be excellent, but the option to now use a credit card for prepaid topups is excellent!

An uncapped solution with no FUP (Fair Usage Policy).

If people wish to download excessive quantities (Hence no FUP), consider the usage scenarios in the original cost, and price the offering appropriately - If people are willing to pay, let them go wild :)

10 Minute 1080p YouTube Video - 260MB

If a person watches an hour of High-Def YouTube a day (And does nothing else online), in 1 month they will have used 46.8GB (260 * 6 * 30)

60GB (Even with the + 60GB Midnight Data) with a 1 year expiry doesn't quite cut it :)
