How the WITS student voting will work

No one is denying anyone their right to education. Nobody is stopping anyone from studying at home/at res like the rest of us are doing.
I did not say the protesters are not students. Don't put words in my mouth. Show me where I said that.

That's really cute.

It "you" is an expressive word, then I'm Adam Habib's son.
Which other activities are those?

Which would be?

Your connections stopped lectures, this stopped people from getting the education that they are paying for. Its not a difficult concept to grasp actually.

I don't think you know what expressive means if that is the example you are using.

No one is stopping anyone's education. Everyone is free to self study (which is what most people do anyway), email lecturers for any problems they may have. Come time for exams we all write.

And the word "you" being expressive is as much BS as me being Habib's son any day of the week.

They didn't pay to self study, they paid to be taught by subject matter experts.

You clearly have no idea about how to make something expressive then do you....

Which bit would be those? Only cars were blocked. You could walk out at the minor pedestrian gates.
You don't have a right to block someone's car either. It isn't your property, you don't control the right to access. The university has determined that those cars are free to enter the campus and you as some 3rd party have said "no, they can't". You have no right to do that. Leave those people to go about their daily lives, that is what a real peaceful protest looks like.

Oh and the fact that with less than 30 minutes left on the poll, some students still have not received the sms is unacceptable.

Did they check they had the correct number registered/linked with their student ID?

How many students haven't received the message?

If its less than 1% it should make no material difference to the outcome of the poll.

You mean sitting in front of an expert, watch them read from slides which are copied and pasted from the textbook then going home to figure it out yourself is not self study? That's what you pay for mos.

Yeah sure buddy. We'll agree to disagree.

You should really request a refund on your schooling grade 1 to date. You are welcome to link your posts on MyBB as proof that you never learned anything.

If that is what your lecturer is doing, have you complained to the faculty? Hmmm?

You can agree to disagree, porchrat is right and you are wrong in the eyes of the law. Plain and simple.

Now that is truly sad. You're so far down the rabbit hole you've started normalising the violation of other people's human rights.

This idiotic sentiment you've just expressed is BTW the main problem with this entire "protest". You folks need to grow up and learn what is really meant by peaceful protest and where your right to protest begins and ends.

Pretty sure. Wits' only reply is "There might be a delay". I myself didn't get it till around 9am. So much for 7am to 4pm.

SMS is a best effort service and has no guaranteed delivery mechanism.

As long as Wits gets a significant proportion of the student body to respond to the point that the missing "responses" don't change the outcome either way, its all good.

Man Wits must either be a schit university relative to others in SA or the standards have fallen dramatically if this is what constitutes lectures these days.

In all seriousness though: Lectures involve an explaining of concepts, hints at what is more or less important come test time, references to other articles and readings to do outside of the standard textbook, the covering of case studies etc.. If all your lecturer is doing is essentially reading from the textbook then your lecturer is incompetent or lazy. I got far more out of my lectures.

Maybe the lecturer doesn't bother because they're aware that nobody in the class (If its Sammy's type of courses) actually wants to learn so they don't need to put in any effort.

WITS is ranked secound in South Africa, Sammy is just talking nonsense.

Probably more than most people and that is pretty much the status quo.
I'm right, he's wrong. You're wrong, I'm right.

Not really. For the same reason that I won't agree to disagree on whether or not it is OK to murder someone. Rights are rights, leave the rights of others alone and protest peacefully. If you choose not to I fully support the police in doing whatever is necessary to stop you.

Actually I suppose I can agree to disagree with you as long as you're on the inside of the prison bars where you can't infringe upon the rights of others further.
