HOW TO BECOME AN ISP?

Do not know about step 2 or the following 7 steps but I will start with step 1, finish high school first.
 
Guy asking for help with an idea on a broadband related forum gets treated like an idiot.

1st. Realize you are alone and no one is going to help you
2nd. Have a lot of money and be prepared to work for free for the next 18 months.
3rd. Start with the right equipment don't cheap out
4th. Start with the right bandwidth and don't cheap out

or become a reseller :)

So in other words, get a few friends and family to offer a **** service?
Sounds about right.
 
To get a feel for things you could contact some of the wisps in your region and ask them about becoming a reseller. This will give you an idea of how things work and access to people who can teach you.

The internet should also have documents, tutorials etc that can help. So google your heart out :).
Also check out your local wug. If you're based in Cape Town, go here http://www.ctwug.za.net

With the wug, you'll get first hand experience with setting up a wireless network.
I believe they also provide training courses to members interested in becoming admins in their areas.
I reckon that with wug training, you'll learn everything you need to know to fly solo.

I'm not too clued up about wireless networks, i.e. I know jack :p. But the information to start your own is out there. And contrary to the responses in this thread, you can build something from the ground.

Become a reseller for a Wisp,it is a lot easier,you don't have to worry about support ,surveys or billing.
You just farm the clients and they do the rest.
