how to get cell c stick to stop installing itself

Hi everyone,

I'm new here so please be nice if this is a stupid question... :D

I have a Cell C data stick but I use an 8ta SIM card. But the Cell C stick keeps trying to install the Cell C software.

How do I make it stop?

Try disable autorun.

There is an AT command that can do that, did it for my ZTE modem and now no installation prompts when inserting speedstick. See mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/273744?p=5647723#post5647723. You will need to use hyperterminal or something similliar to insert the commands.
 
Um, could you guys please explain it step by step like I'm a 4-year old? The link to that post doesn't really help. :(
 
I'm using the Cell C USB stick with an 8ta SIM card. The Windows Autorun thing didn't work.
 
When the Cell C software starts installing, does Windows not ask you permission? Also during the software installation, you normally choose a location for the program to install like C:\ecky\Program Files. First you could deny the program rights to install, and if that does not work then cancel the install whilst its happening?
 
- Press and hold left [SHIFT] key while inserting dongle. It doesn't work on some laptops.
- Press {ESC] key when dialog pops-up.
- In the long run disable autorun in Windows. It should work, you did something wrong.
 
It doesn't install automatically. It just keeps opening up the window and asks you if you want to install. Very annoying.

Actually it installs automatically dirvers without asking, but it is the first time only.

Question is whether you see pop-up window every time after inserting modem (this is normal), or it happens also repaetedly when modem is plugged. If the later, you have a problem.

I'm in Claremont, Cape Town. Will Cell C really help me get the stick to stop installing software so I can use an 8ta SIM card? I spoke to a guy at the Cavendish Cell C and he told me that the 8ta SIM card wouldn't even work at all, which obviously wasn't true.
