How to get Telkom FTTH line without data?

So these are Telkom fibre line-only prices via Crystal Web?

Upload speeds?

Yes. But I believe you need to have a CW data account to take advantage of them. I've heard that the 100Mbps line has 25Mbps upload speeds at the moment. Apparently it was initially 1/10th, then went to 1/5th and now it's 1/4th. Could improve further I suppose.

But then it's kinda pointless them offering "naked" fibre if you need to have data with them, no?

They're not offering naked fibre. They're offering the lines as a convenience for their customers.

Basically just so that people can bypass Telkom?

Essentially. Telkom has made it difficult for people to get just a fibre line from then as they insist on an all-inclusive package. If you read this thread you'll see a number of workarounds that are available.

The best option is to have an ISP that simply offers Telkom FTTH lines, as Crystal Web now does.

I will backtrack through the thread, but which other ISPs offer Telkom FTTH lines only?

The whole point of the discussion is that no one offers only a Telkom FTTH line. You have to get some data from the party providing the line.

That sucks but like you say, workarounds are available.

I really hope Vox jumps on the bandwagon and offers something similar to CW. Then for me it'd be a no-brainer to take the FTTH line with them and use a normal Fatpipe account over fibre.

You can hope (and maybe contact their support to see if they can't already), but I don't know how likely that is considering that they already offer Telkom FTTH packages.

Now that Crystal Web offers the lines, I'd say they're the best quality all-inclusive route available. Their network is rock solid.

Nope. Can grab fibre line only. Not a problem. DSL lines require a data package...

I assumed that when you mentioned organising the lines for your customers, that the data must be required otherwise they wouldn't be customers.

If you're willing to have customers that don't want any data package and just want to pay for a line, then CW is the only ISP I've come across that can provide such a service. Pretty awesome if that's the case, but even if not, it's cool that you're even offering Telkom FTTH lines to your customers.

Yup, you can grab the fibre line only from us if you want. Not sure why you'd want to. We also have the best network (in our completely biased opinion, but backed up with results from Mybroadband.co.za)...

How do we go about getting a fibre line from you guys, since it isn't on your website.

My ISPAfrika application has been forwarded to Telkom for processing. They said Telkom will contact me to arrange installation.

I'd love to get every aspect of my connection from Crystal Web, but I'm trying to reduce monthly expenses as much as possible. R729 month-to-month for 100Mbps from ISPAfrika incl. a 10GB data account I can use as a backup is just too good to pass up.

I ordered a fibre router from Web Africa just now for R1.8k. The Zyxel SBG3300-N. Better price than I saw elsewhere.

ISPAfrika's Offering is definitely the best atm as their offers are month to month and somewhat cheaper than other other ISPs.

Remember the actual fibre itself is installed by Telkom and runs on Telkom Infrastructure, Only the actual admin is managed by the ISP (payment, orders etc)

Pretty much the same as having your DSL Line managed by your ISP but in the case of ISPAfrika you would use another ISPs DSL Data account such as Afrihost's where you can make use of Afrihost Plus and double your data etc.

Ah, thought so.

So basically you guys sell "naked" fibre and the consumer can choose whether to use CW as the actual ISP for data as well or go with someone else. I think that's pretty good value for money. I will definitely be moving over to you if that's the case once our fibre is in.

Is the Crystalweb fibre-only offer subject to the standard 24-month contract or does it run month to month?

Hi Dj

Why the diff in price CW vs ISP Africa am I missing something ?

Everyone but ISPAfrika charges R849pm. Nothing to do with CW. ISPAfrika has insane data bundle prices (R1000 for 200GB), so I assume they subsidise the line in the hope that you're going to buy data from them.

Any other costs? Once off, etc.?
