How to get Telkom FTTH line without data?

Any other costs? Once off, etc.?

R1710 once-off installation fee. If you take a 24 month contract you get a free router worth R500. The R729pm also includes 10GB data. That's about it.

None of this is on the website, the only fibre link takes you to a "feasibility study"... No packages are advertised, nothing

DJ already said that it's not on the website yet and that he'll offer the service in the meantime anyway.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah, well I'm still waiting to be purpled anyway and I'm pretty sure CW will get this on the interwebs faster than Telkom install fibre;)

A Telkom techie came over to my house this morning and looked around. I wasn't around, but apparently he pointed out the easiest access point (over the back wall with the existing Telkom cable) and then left.

I really hope this means installation might happen next week.

That's good news - in terms of stages, how long did each stage take, from time of application, to receiving of the Telkom Order number, to them coming out to you?

Well I'm not going to count my chickens just yet. No one has come over to do any installing yet.

I applied on Tuesday afternoon through ISPAfrika, they gave me an order number an hour or so later and a guy came over to scout early this morning.

Mmm... I applied mid day yesterday and have yet to receive the Telkom Order number.

I got a reply:

I had to manually submit your application form as their portal deems your address unfeasible. They have said there is inconsistencies to the update of the database. So I did not get an automated order number. I will ask them for one and pass it on to you.

The joys...

Have you checked your house in the Telkom coverage map? There are loads of houses in Mill Park that aren't dark purple yet.

Yeah, my section hasn't turned dark purple yet - I suspect though, that updates haven't occurred from Telkoms side.

Perhaps. I've never heard of a light purple installation happening though. You'll have to hold thumbs.

Once Mill Park went light purple, updates happened quite quickly to the coverage map. I assumed from the state of the map that Telkom wasn't able to finish the FTTH installation in time for the network freeze.

MickeyD might be able to find out for you if your property is ready for fibre.

My connection has disconnected quite a few times today, and at the moment the line is dead. The connection is listed as 'unconfigured', and not even physical reboots of the router can change anything.

I really hope this means that the contractor doing our installation has spent the day installing fibre to the series of poles leading to the back of our property.

Nice one - let's hope for the best. I'm still awaiting my order number.

Considering how quickly I received my order number, it might well be the case that your part of Mill Park isn't fibre enabled yet.

My line is still completely dead. I did a quick drive around the block before parking just now and didn't spot any sign of an installation crew. Kinda crap if they knocked off work without leaving the DSL cables in a functional state.

My line is still dead. Getting quite annoyed about this. Someone should have called to explain the downtime and to let me know how long it would go on for.

I phoned Telkom and they have no knowledge of any FTTH installation for my address, although they did say it is probably because I didn't order the installation directly from them. And again I drove around the block looking for sign of an installation crew and saw nothing.

Hopefully ISPAfrika can give me the contact details for the people doing the installation. Waiting for them to email back.

That sucks. I'm still awaiting a reply from Garth too.

Already finished my correspondence with Garth. Seems that I should report a fault. Phoning Telkom now...

Ah darn - let's hope that they can give you some decent feedback. I emailed Garth yesterday afternoon asking for an update on the "manual" application - sent a follow up email now.
