Telkom are telling me that they only install FTTH as part of a line+data 24 month contract. I've checked a few ISP websites and don't see an option to have one of them organise just the line for me. I was banking on being able to get my data elsewhere, seeing as Telkom doesn't offer more than 200GB and because Telkom's fibre network is supposed to be open-access.

Does anyone here pay Telkom for just their fibre line? How did you apply?

Web Africa seem to be the best option if I can't organise a line from Telkom. R1748pm for 100Mbps 500GB with 1TB midnight data, router and fibre installation isn't bad.

That's where I got the price I mentioned in the OP. Doesn't work if you don't specify a data amount.

Well it would help if you said you didn't want data from Web AFrica, or only from a certain ISP.

I'm just looking to have line rental with Telkom and the freedom to use an ISP I want. No long term contracts.

My two favoured ISP's are Crystal Web and Afrihost, but neither offers Telkom FTTH packages.

I'm curious as to how the Telkom FTTH customers on MyBB got their service.

Then why not just take a small 10GB package with an ISP that you can always use as backup data?

Vox offers the smallest data package, of 50GB. Actually a pretty good idea if I can't get just the line with Telkom.

R919pm for 100Mbps line rental + 50GB data with Vox
R399pm for Afrihost 200GB
R99 for Afrihost Plus, to double data to 400GB

R1417pm for 450GB. That's an excellent option. Thanks man!

Ooh. Will do.

There's no such thing as a Telkom FTTH package, but it seems we'll need to explicitly separate them on our site. Telkom FTTH is operated over IPC and is therefore provisioned the same. So you can use any DSL ISP you like for Telkom FTTH services.

You can't get the line-only from us though but there may be changes to this in the new year...

I understand that any ISP account will work on a Telkom fibre line - I'm just wondering why Telkom is making it so difficult to get only the line from them. I mean, my DSL line was really easy to organise back in the day and I never had Telkom trying to force a data package down my throat. With their FTTH, I was expecting a simple application process and an increase in my current R425 line rental fee to R849.

So can you guys organise a Telkom fibre line for me, with me as a CW customer? And without me needing a new data account of course. Who would I pay the R849pm to?

Have you gone into the Bridge and spoken to them yet?

You can try ISPAfrika - They offer lines with starting caps of 10GB. About as close as you gonna get to a line only ...

Dude I love you. R729pm for 100Mbps 10GB with Telkom FTTH is the best thing I've ever seen.

I was at The Bridge earlier. Queues were nuts. Walked straight past. Telkom told me over the phone that my area still needs to be tested, so I'll keep phoning and when the testing is done I'll make my move. Hopefully it doesn't take long.

Yep, was wondering about that... I know they are pushing for it to be complete before the end of next week. Remember that Telkom has an annual "freeze period" when they do their routine system procedures and no new build work can be cut over and made "live" on the network. If it is cut over before then, then they can install new services off that new build work.

Thanks for the info. I'll phone every two or three business days then.

They do offer more than 200GB , upto xxTB of data. [to clarify, xx can be max your line can achieve in 30 days at night surfer time :p]

Free Night Surfer data - this is stated under all the data package sizes on the site. This works from 00:00 - 07:00 Monday <> Sunday.

I have yet to read about someone hitting any limit. You can do around 245GB /day in that 7 hours ;) @ 100Mbps...

Not to dismay anything said on the posts here but MANY folks do not see this when having / considering Fibre directly from Telkom. :)

Then Telkom needs to sort out its customer service, and website for that matter, asap. Really awful how difficult it is to get information.

Going by the price of the 200GB package, I'm not too optimistic about the price of their 400GB one.

Midnight data is important, but almost everyone offers it now.
