Open up the Messaging app, new message and do a long tap (hold down your thumb on the screen). Input method will pop up, then simply select the Gingerbread keyboard & you're good to go.

The other big plus is that it's much smaller than the big default HTC keyboard, so doesnt fill up half your screen + I havent made any typing mistakes with this new keyboard. :)

Damn! There is another keyboard for people with big fingers.....think it's called Bigger Keyboard, just search the market.

*Still give it a try, cos I've also got big fingers, but after two minutes I was having a great time with it. Very much like the iPhone keyboard, you think you're gonna punch the wrong keys, but somehow you always end up pressing the right keys. :)

just got off the phone with a sales consultant from nashua n she said that they don't have stock!!!she says they only getting stock on the 14th of february!!!sent my upgrade forms last week already so its gonna be like a 4 week wait!!!it gets even better cos from joburg, it will come to east london and then go to cape town (cos thats where i'll be on the 14th of feb)!!!so the wait could be even longer!!!my life really sucks at this stage :(

was really funny, when i asked about the stock availability, she said they have -26 devices on hand...
 
Phone around buddy... I got the same reply... I called different branches and a couple of hours later I had my desire HD in my hand. These guys thrive on the commission received from issuing contracts... just take your money elsewhere.

i would love to do that but unfortunately my contract is not in my name, its in my dad's company's name so technically it's not my money...and besides that, there is only one branch in east london :)

What to get and where?

So, I'm reading this thread from post #1. Only on pg 78 now :o

I'm ordering mine through MTN corporate, so cannot fetch from a store :( Delivery should be in the next few days.

I'm keen to order some stuff so I have it waiting or soon after the phone arrives- screen protectors and leather cases count for jack if I scratch/drop the thing in the first few days.

I have seen a few combo deals mentioned- take2 and expansys seem to be popular.

I'm looking for:

1. Car cradle + charger
2. Screen covers
3. Leather/neoprene slip cover or pouch.
4. Short (~5cm) USB->USB Micro cable (to carry in pouch all the time for charging, syncing and data transfer)
5. Possible desk docking station (can use existing laptop stand but a future proof USB micro dock would be cool)
6. 32GB MicroSD card- can hold out for this until prices are more attractive. Can live with the 8GB for now. (Do the MTN ones come with 8GB bundled??) Class of this isn't too important, unless you can convince me otherwise ;)

SO- I've used Take2 and Kalahari before, never dealt with Expansys. Willing to order from anyone reputable really- free shipping and quick delivery are winners too.

Are there combo packs that you have bought and are using that match some of the requirements above? Would you recommend them or is it best to order the best of each breed to make up the ultimate DHD welcome pack? :D

Been waiting for this since I first heard of it!
 
I just received my order from expansys. Took about 3 weeks to arrive. I ordered the HTC pouch and car charger. Pouch is great but I expected it to clean the screen a little more. Seems like it smudges the screen instead of wiping it clean but I still feel like my phone is well protected so I'm happy. Car charger is great and the little HTC letters light up. Looks nifty at night.

Now phone your dad and tell him not to be a cheapskate, remind him that you only deserve the best & tell him about all the benefits you'll have when being able to use the Desire HD as a "study tool". :)

HAHAHA...unfortunately for me my dad is anti-HTC and very much pro BlackBerry...although i agree with you, it would be a very useful "study tool" :D

Oh dear. You'll fail all your subjects, cos you'll be constantly chatting on BBM. Tell your dad it will be the end of your studies if you get a BB, the Desire HD will teach you how to be disciplined when using data bandwidth. :p

Actually, if you get the DHD, you'll stop having a social / work / study life at all! I keep getting new apps and keep sneaking time inbetween to play with my DHD. Can't say how many times i've been caught with my phone in hand! :)

I can't remember ever being so infatuated with a phone - ever!
 
Where can I get a micro USB cable? I need two more, my battery is flat after a reasonably heavy usage day.

Also - somewhere it was mentioned what charge rating car charger should be bought...anyone know where it is?

shux im in jhb :( i'll be strong, im still reading the 226 page manual that i downloaded, and I get a new DHD tips n tricks video off youtube every night... this is torture :P
