Huawei B970/B970b HSPA Router

How do you view SMS alerts on Vodafone B970 router?

Hi

I have a Vodafone B970 Router. How can I view the SMS alerts that are sent out to my sim card number? EG the sms that is sent out telling you how much transfer you have left etc.

With the data card software there used to be an SMS tab on the console. Is there an SMS page on the Router's control panel? If so I can't find it.

Anyone else have this problem, or know the solution?

I can't recall now if there is an SMS interface on the B970.

If you have a contract you can use ALTNUM to send the SMS's to another number. Otherwise you can monitor usage in Vodacom4me, which is a way better idea than waiting for the SMS to arrive.

When using WLAN is their a way to monitor your data usage.

What is the best way to make WLAN secure.
I played around with advanced WLAN setting it seems my PC is in a way not 100% compatible.

There is a running total of your usage on the login page while the router is on. It will reset when the connection restarts.

Under the advanced settings you want to enabled WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK with TKIP. Enabling MAC filtering is also a good idea. WPA is supported from XP SP2 and up.

Vista call's it differently WPA2-Personel = WPA2-PSK.
I made the changes it works.

I noticed with the B970 router the following, is this normal.

When browsing on the internet from time to time the router lose connection.
Mode on the router is flashing dark blue.

Then if I click on internet browser again immediate connection is made again.
Then mode becomes solid blue again.

Is there a setting I missed?:D
This happens curently while writing this thread.

Yup, it disconnects if idle cos the default setting is "On demand"

Change it like so:
Advanced Settings > Dial up settings > PPP Settings > PPP Connection > Auto

I need to power a B970 from a source other than the supplied power supply or USB cables.

The B970 uses 5V + Ground. Both the supplied power supply and USB cables deliver this.

The difference is that when you connect the power supply the ethernet ports and wifi is available, whereas when you power it using the USB cables they are DISABLED.

I connected the B970 to my 5V/Gnd source and it goes into the USB mode where the router is disabled. I need it enabled.

So it appears there is a difference between the two sets of power connections that the B970 detects and sets its operating mode. With a multimeter I could see that on the power supply unit the shielding is connected to the 5V/Gnd. I tried to duplicate it but didn't get it to work.

So ... can anyone help?

UPDATE: Seems you need to short pins 2 and 3 (data+ and data-), can anyone confirm?

Hi All,

I just had my unit for a week.
I lost it settings all together yesterday.
Is this a common problem.
It is pain in your bud to do all settings over again.
Is there a fix for this.

I've already noted this problem, but have had no feedback from Huawei or Vodacom.

"Yes, you are correct. I know a few people who have this device and when they have a power failure, then all the settings get reset. I've experienced this myself as well.

And there is no way to save a config file of the setting so one can just restore them later either. I know the Linksys and NetGear routers have this option. Why this was left out of the Huawei router is quite confusing.

Does anyone know if there is a firmware update for the router to solve this problem of settings being reset?"

MTN has discontinued theirs.
New one on its way next month. Rumour by one of the outlets.

Using a phone with your B970

I notice you use your B970 with a phone. Is it a straight plug-in or do you need a VOIP provider? Also if it is a straight plug-in, does it use air-time on the sim card? I find no instructions anywhere to tell me more about this. Your help will be appreciated.

It's an normal analogue plug. It will use the airtime on the SIM in the router.

I thought that would be the case. Do you know of any manual that gives more info of that kind on the router?
