Huawei B970/B970b HSPA Router

oh...sorry cant open that link on my work PC. Blocked by IT department :-(

so the expander thing connects wirelessly to the router and then takes the signal it gets and expands it? cool!

What you need to get is a range extender - Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander

I've setup one of these before and they work very well and improved the coverage throughout a very large house.
Cool, that thing looks like it extends WIFI coverage without needing to be plugged into the actual router....

But jeeez, at >R1000 it will be cheaper (and better?) to get normal wireless AP and LAN plug it into a B970 lan port, or use as repeater to B970.
Pity the great solutions are generally too expenive to be practical.
I wonder why Huawei didnt think about a connector for extending WiFi too :(

As mentioned by everyone else the antenna connector is for 3G only.

I guess you will have to wait for the B980 to get two connectors :p

Hi All,

All you B970 users can I use MDMA utility with this device.
I will be getting one next week.

Response received from Huawei regarding expanding WiFi range. Not good news thought :-(

Hi Corne’

Sorry for my late response.

Please take note that the Wi Fi antenna is built into the B970 and that there no alternative antenna that you can add to expand the range as this is a home gateway with limited range on the Wi Fi.

Thank you

Regards

Huawei B970 Router Problems

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.

We have a couple of these units that we use to create connections on site, but ever now and then for some reason these units will re-enable the DHCP server on the unit itself and also default the IP address on the unit back to 196.168.1.1.

Now this is a big pain especially since we run a connection on the lan port which is a pix firewall that doesn't want a DHCP address as it has a Static Address already. Also the IP on the PIX is configured with a custom subnet.

Has anyone else had this happen to them where the DHCP server gets re-enabled and the lan config changes. Nope the router was not reset as all the other settings are still the way it was configured ie wireless disabled etc.

I'm looking for a small external antenna for these units, not the big yagi type things. Any idea who sells them?

Mine completely reset itself about a month ago & lost all the settings. No idea what caused it, it was the 1st time its done it in the 4 or 5 months I've had it

You think that is going to be better than the internal antenna?

Indeed. We have one which we got with a mini PCI Express 3G/HSDPA modem intended for in-car PC's.

Works nicely and no need to deal with cables or mounting.

Seems some power failures makes this happen more frequently

Yes, you are correct. I know a few people who have this device and when they have a power failure, then all the settings get reset. I've experienced this myself as well.

And there is no way to save a config file of the setting so one can just restore them later either. I know the Linksys and NetGear routers have this option. Why this was left out of the Huawei router is quite confusing.

Does anyone know if there is a firmware update for the router to solve this problem of settings being reset?
