There is a place to create custom profiles, but as with Brieuse I would have to login to the router to give you the exact steps.
 
im having problems getting onto the psn using ps3 and a b970 wired connection .....

any suggestions or is vc having internet issues currently

i could log in sunday but last night and tonight im battling

Login, Advanced settings, Dial Up Settings, Profile Settings, under profile name: type in your custom name, make the correct entries and save.

Is it possible that I make a full backup of a B970 box and put this backup then on another B970 box (maybe via telnet -> exact commands needed)?

This question is because I own a German T-Online Web'n'Walk Box IV (=B970 hardware) with a firmware released on Jun 24 2008 and one guy owns the box with a firmware released on Nov 18 2008.

I have often problems with connecting to my provider or connection is lost (only with my Web'n'Walk Box IV - my Smartphone works with the same sim card without problems) and so I want try whether the problems occurs also with this new firmware...

The "bad" guys from T-Online did not and will not (in near future) release this or another firmware for all users.

You can only get the firmware from your provider. Maybe what you need to do (if possible) is test the device with the later firmware at your location. Otherwise you need to keep bugging T-Online and make them upgrade your firmware and/or resolve your connectivity issues.
 
Receiving sms via the Vodafone B970 Router

Hi Guys,

Shoot me if this has been discussed previously, I cant seem to find anything related. I'm sitting with the following scenario:

Client living on a farm in the middle of nowhere wanted cellphone reception for voice & data, went out and find a weak signal on his roof, so I installed an external antenna, down into his house, which went into a B970 router.

Client is happy, he has data connectivity via the router, and have voice in his home by plugging a cordless phone into the phone port.

Now the problem, if he's doing his banking he need to receive a conformation sms from his bank.

Is there a way/menu for him to access the sms on the sim used in the router?

Yes , he should be able to "instruct" his profile on his banking sight to send a"OTP" to the cell phone number of the sim thats in the router , that is , if the softwear on the router is compliant .

If the B970's web interface doesn't allow you to read SMS, try connecting to the B970 by USB and then using VMC/Mobile Partner to read the SMS.

Some banks allow the sending of OTP via email.
 
I had a dig through the web interface on my B970 and there does not seem to be a way to read and SMS.
 
Firmware Upgrade?

I got a B970, worked fine for a while, then stopped connecting. I found that it will connect if I set it to GSM only, but not on 3g only or 3g Prefered. There is 3g where I am and I get a 3g connection if I use my HTC as a modem with the same sim card, so the trouble is definately the router.
I have reset it and basically tried every setting it has with no luck, I called Vodacom they said they had troubles with the tower, then they sent me an sms and told me it is fixed but I still can't connect.
I called them again and they said I must call BBG Holdings who told me to update the firmware from Vodacom's web site. I could not find it so I emailed Vodacom and they gave me a link to their firmware updates site and the firmware for the B970 is not listed... Anyone got an idea of where I should go to next?

As far as I am aware there is currently no firmware update for the B970, so someone is grabbing at straws there. If you suspect the problem is still with your tower the best way to figure out where the problem is, is to take your router to a different location and test it there. If 3G is working at the new location, but not at home it's still the tower. If the problem follows the router take it to Vodacare to test/swap.
 
I have similar problem with an MTN B970, also just suddenly decided to follow the go-on-strike tradition .... it picks up great 3G/HSPA signal, but refuses to connect. Set it to GPRS/EDGE-ONLY and it connects no problem (at EDGE speed). Just gives the finger when trying to connect on HSPA
At first I suspected maybe theres problem with the tower, that it provides the HSPA signal but maybe disconnected somewhere.
But I tried another B970, and it connects to HSPA fine, so gotta be the modem.
Reset to default doesnt help either.
So, its gotta have 24month warranty... taking it back to MTN to swop.
Should be same with VC... go swop for working model.

Yesterday my B970 kept giving me the red flashing light for signal meaning SIM card problem or PIN code error, after about about 10 reboots it worked.

And now today it suddenly decided to reset itself back to default settings :(
Will wait & see what tomorrow brings
 
B970 + External Antenna?

Just put it here, but I guess it can go into any thread where B970 is used.

The B970 modem/router has a connector for an external antenna... so... is this external antenna intended to improve the 3G/HSDPA signal or the unit's 802.g wireless signal, or BOTH?
I'm under the impression that this antenna connector is for HSPA signal improvement only.
We use a pointing antenna on ours, which definately boosts the HSPA signal.
I've had a query from somebody with a guest house, who wants to boost the wireless signal (laptop to B970) so the guests in reception area can connect to the router in his office... signal is poor in reception area.
What options are there to boost the B970's wireless signal? (apart from moving the B970 out of 'IT-office' closer to the clients, connected by LAN.... or add a wireless access point -> clients connect to AP, AP connects to B970)
Is there perhaps a 'hidden' connector inside for normal wireless ext antenna?
 
mmm interesting question....the router we use in our house has antenna connected to it to extend the range and improve the wifi signal...but that is a router from telkom.

I will try and find out.

That connection for the external antenna is not for wi-fi, but for the 3G antenna. If you connect an external antenna on there, it will not increase your wi-fi range.

What you need to get is a range extender - Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander

I've setup one of these before and they work very well and improved the coverage throughout a very large house.
