Huawei P6

FWIW, my P6 works fine with the wifi at work, home and some open networks at Canal Walk.
It's on 4.2.2, CUSTC316D119

I'm running B119 as well... All good with the WiFi. Had the phone for probably just over a week and works just as well as my Note 2 did in terms of signal and stability on my network... Maybe some sort of setting on either the router or the phone isn't playing nice.

The phone is really good when its working and I'd definitely not give up and move back to Samsung. Try sort the issue out and just use this phone. You will really appreciate it for what it is. That UI is just so customisable!!

Just picked up a new P6. Aaaannnnd...same fscking problems from the outset. Freezing the wireless network. So flashed the latest KitKat which was the only firmware that resolved it. And it drops wireless the moment it moves out of full signal range. I'm 10 metres away from the router between one wall, and this thing can't connect. Or it does connect, then disconnects.

Fsck this piece of schit phone. Had enough now...
Back to Samsung?

I had the Note 2 and still have an S3 lying around. Neither suffered these issues. I had the S3 and P6 side by side and the S3 had no issued with WiFi while the P6 hopped between connected and disconnected. When it was connected, it would jump between downloading at full line speed for a few seconds, and then dead again. The WiFi chip in these things must be awful. Or the build creates issues with it, or perhaps this batch of phones were stuffed?

Either way, I've now tried two phones, both give the same problems, while my Samsungs don't have this issue.

So yea, back to Samsung it is for me...

I had a Note 2 and have an S3 lying around as well... At least on mine, I actually feel the P6 is slightly better for WiFi signal:p

I think there may an issue with DJ's P6 kernel (or drivers) with the VC altered B119 ROM, the system probably couldn’t delete or replace them. I had a similar issue on my old Xperia X10 and later through many XDA threads discovered that my phone was not "that" unlocked and that I should had used an older unlocking and swarm application. His P6 probably have signature protections due to the locked VC bootloader.

Really don’t know, he had two similar P6’s with the exact same problem, hard to say that the hardware is kaput. VC probably loaded a bad system over one shipment… or DJ’s Wi-Fi channels hate the phone... or the shipment is bad (sample within). Maybe test the phone in another Wi-Fi range... or chuck the phone(s), seen that VC wants to rumble and I sincerely hope that you can beat their unethical system.

Weird... I also have a VC altered B119 P6 and mine is good. Probably a bad batch as you said

DJ, what brand of router are you using? I've been having problems on my wifi network as well (Belkin router) and am trying to work out if my son's P6 is causing them.

Tried with 3 different routers. A TP-Link W8970. A Belkin N600, and a cheapie Tenda router (which is actually a solid bloody performing router if you ask me). The one phone froze the TP Link network completely, and couldn't obtain an IP address through the Tenda which is used as an extender. All other devices connected to the Tenda work perfectly, including other phones. The other phone froze the Belkin N600 wireless network.

I tried B125 and the same troubles existed. Flashed the latest KitKat firmware and it resolved the issues on both phones, but created a new one: frequent WiFi disconnects on the TP-Link and Tenda wireless networks. Both however are currently operating fine in an environment with a Belkin N600 router.

Seems there is just something completely screwed up with their firmware...

Thanks. Seems like I'll have to update to KitKat to solve the problems if it's working fine on your Belkin setup. Could you point me in the direction of where you found the update?

Got one, great phone it chows the battery though and gets very hot when using the GPS.

Seems like the official KitKat update has been released:

Edit: my bad, seems to be the Chinese version, but the international version should be out soon.

:(... Anyway, how long does it take for Vodacom to push the update once its released?? I don't feel too daring these days after what happened with my Note 2:erm:

Here is the changelog: http://paste.ee/r/CirRR

Two months ago I cracked the screen of my P6 and because I am on a MTN contract I took it to a MTN HVRC . I think HVRC stands for “high volume rampant confusion “. They send it to the repair agent Tirisano Cellular. Because of MTN’s incompetents nothing were done to my Phone for a month and a half, then Tirisano finally contacted me directly. I paid the money charged for the repair directly to them and had my phone back within a week. So the aftersales service is not so bad but stay far away from emptyN. But they did not repair my screen but replaced my phone with a new one: it still had stickers on it and the serial number is different. They cloned the Imei number and my apps perfectly onto the new phone including my B125 firmware. So I did not just get my screen repaired for R1300 but received a brand new phone!

Cloning the IMEI number sounds very worrying:erm:

Why? how els do you think a manufacturer will be able to replace a phone if they cannot clone the the Imei?
The only problem was that they usually erased your whole phone.

Cloning the IMEI number sounds very worrying:erm:

The P6 they used to replace his MTN P6 was obviously not registered accordingly, thus they cloned the IMEI to enable signal "signatures" with MTN, so that the MTN network can be authorised to send a signal to his phone and/or enabling voice and cellular data. Yes, this do sounds worrying, perhaps the "new" P6 dropped off a lorry
