Yeah :D Well we should really experiment and see how the different products work. I think the issue with getting people to use hydroponics is that it can be expensive so if we can find a cost effective way to do things then maybe more people would consider it as well. I'm very keen on trying both products though.
 
Well maybe we should experiment by growing something with the different types on nutes and see how it looks and tastes in comparison.?

are you only using hydroponics to start the tomato seedlings before transplanting them outside? or by outside do you mean into your hydro set-up?
 
This guy's site is also informative and experiments with various lighting, hydroponics, aeroponics etc. I'm might try a coupla soil tomatoes and a coupla drip buckets if i can find a convenient shop. I don't mind buying online once things are swimming along but to get started i'd prefer to see the stuff. Pedantic, that's me!

Had to add some support for the basil as the wind just blows it all over the place. Just used some simple plastic name tags which are working great!

Have you seen the autopot system? It's available locally and being used commercially overseas. You can srart as small as 1 pot and expand up to 1000s of pots. Check out the videos :)

going to get 1 or 2 pots next week.

Sorry guys, but would anybody be interested in a thread on seed exchange? I just find that sometimes a person buys seed just for one or two plants at a time and if your doing a small setup like me, then you sit with a whole lot of extra seed going to waste.

Also buying in bulk is much cheaper.

Just an idea.

Zenbaas - You should top your basil.
It will yield more as well as not being so tall and lanky.
Most plants perform better once topped.

Im a soil only gardener for now:) Zenbaas started those seeds in hydro and now he has put them outside in hydro setup.It would be to the detriment of the seed to be started in hydro and then planted into soil.

Agreed, but that plant is a bit too tall to top, what about tying it down?

Those are some very healthy plants, You must be chuffed as this is your first try?I know I would be :)
You running Nutrifeed in that water only right?
 
I'm running Nutrifeed for my tomatoes and they're growing very nicely. The lettuce and basil etc are growing in gro bloom and micro formulations from Andy at Greenthumb hydroponics. So far I'm very chuffed I won't lie. :D We use basil a lot and it grows really well without any issues. The things I'm of course looking out forward to is the tomatoes. We have lots of little bees buzzing around which have been doing great work as well!

. By top do you mean chop off the top bit? Have been wondering about that but not all that sure.

yup, just chop it off, it will produce 2 shoots and branch out, an produce more, it does this as a survival mechanism, cos in the wild they get eaten.
