I am regretting moving back to Vodacom. Such a profit-centric, screw the client any way possible company.

I have 3 current complaints about them:

1) I recently took a contract on a Samsung Omnia 7. It's a great phone and I love it. When reading the Voda details page (now unavailable) it boasted about the high speed data connections. Great. Yet, there was no mention that the "Internet Sharing" option has been removed by them. I.E. - you can't use as a modem. But WHY?!?! Apparently it's an ISP option for when it is offered with unlimited Internet. But we don't have that here, so why is it disabled?? I tried to unlock the phone from WPChevron - yet missed the token sale cut off by literally a few hours. Other country ISP's have released updates that enables the "Internet Sharing" option.

2) Based on the fact I thought I could use it as a modem, I purchased a few data bundles from Voda. 2GB. Yet yesterday I had 800mb left but now it has gone. WHY? I bought it, and because I could not use it fast enough it has been removed. That is theft!!!!! Damn, I can't tell you how mad I am about that.

3) My son wants the new Nokia Lumia (after loving my WP7 phone, he wants to dump his BB - good). Yet, I see Voda have signed some sort of "exclusive" deal with Nokia, so you can only get from them. But with Business Call option only. I want to give him some sort of 120 min package, but can't. Another rip off from Voda. Now we must wait for their exclusivity to expire so we can get a fair package. (And I won't ever get from Voda again as it stands...)

Voda3g - Please answer these questions:

1) Why can't I use my Omnia as a modem?
2) Why does bandwidth I purchase expire?
3) When is your Lumia exclusivity over?

1. I will leave that for someone who is more familiar with WP7 handsets.
2. Vodacom data expires on the last day of the following month. Has been like this since round about 2009 I think. Maximum carry over is 60 days.

2) Yes - I know, but my question is why? If I buy coffee at a coffee shop, they don't take it away if not finished in 10mins. Or if I buy petrol, if not used in 60days they don't take it back. I PAID for it...

The roll over policy have been a topic of many discussions here on mybb. The main argument from the operator view point is that data is not a physical entity that can be stored etc etc. Vodacom is not the only operator that has got this roll over policy.

The financed deals have been posted for you aswell. Please look at the last batch of deals on my first post in this thread.

Seriously - don't you think if you broke from the pack and did something different, people would be drawn to your offering?
It's not like VC is in any danger of making a loss any time soon. Maybe the employees just won't buy a new merc every bonus month :P

I was looking for links to those financed specials - Who's the ISP etc- where can I apply? Yours is pasted from somewhere - my question is from where?

I do not see how that is evidence of collusion. I cant give exact examples...but I do browse the international network's websites from time to time to see what they offer and for how much....and I cant remember seeing any kind of extended roll over policy for their data products. Dont quote me on that though cause as I said...I was not specifically looking for that.

One of the reasons I remember hearing for not giving long roll over periods for data is because it helps the networks plan for expected loads on the network. But again...I am not a netowork techie nor am I a finance guru that knows how all these things fit together.

My appologies. I missunderstood. Those deals are copied and pasted from my dealsheets. They are for Vodacom Servoice Provider Company...so you can get them from any Vodacom Shop, Chatz Connect and Vodacom 4U Shop.

Thanks again - I understand now. I must have been asking the wrong questions, as I asked at a vodashop just a few days ago (Sandton City).

The sales girls said if I want free minutes, then I need to pay for the full package (Business call) and add the 120s on top of that, taking the contract price to close to R600 which was crazy.

Will see if my son can hang on a bit and see what other providers offer when Voda's monopoly on them expire.

Dont think you asked the sales girl the wrong questions, had a similar problem, they seem so reluctant to advise on deals that are not in the magazines. too much work to look aperently. If only there were more ocleroux's working :D

And if im not mistaken vodacoms curent deals expire on March 06 so they should have better pricing then

The current deal run is set to continue untill the 6th of April 2012. Should this change then I will be sure to update my sticky in the Cellular section of mybb.

why is that list of current deals from vodacom not somewhere to be found on their website? finding out the best deal for one to get at the moment is 'go into shop which is sometimes 200km away and ask the person who has to look it up in a big fat lever arch file.'

surely that method could have been replaced 10 years ago by 'click here to download this excel file with all the latest deals' or even if vodacom were to spend R500 of the stolen money from the original poster in this thread and just show the page on the site as it gets updated and sent to each franchise anyway... its not brain surgery.

So you bought your bundle at the beginning of January. Eina to lose out on it especially when you would probably have used it if the Omnia Hotspot ability had not been crippled.

There is another thread going where jannievanzyl (Vodacom) is looking into the rollover policy.

The truth is, I would purchase far more data if I could use as a hot spot. I think every other phone OS has Internet Sharing, so it makes no sense why they have locked this option on the Omnia. Does anyone know if the option is still locked on the Lumia?

Personally, I think it is an oversight by Vodacom - they would be losing data sales keeping this option locked - it's possibly not intentional, but rather forgotten about, as they only offered the Omnias for a very short time frame, and don't have that many subscribers using that model perhaps?

I have been following international threads this year on that model and have seen mobile operators all around the world offering the Internet Sharing update for capped subscribers. Have just been hoping Voda would, but I guess it will never happen.

Um, can somebody tell me how to purchase bandwith using *111# on a Lumia 800. The menu screen comes up, but no touch screen keyboard or option touch the option 1 to 7, how am I meant to buy airtime ? any clues... pretty cluesless with touch screen

Call shotgun on the 8000 :D anyway I am going to assume that financed deals mean contract, but where can I find the differences between top up and talk 100 and so on?

Yes, have the same problem with my phone, I recommend you use another phone, or the vodacom website.

Also I'm not sure why you can't use your Omnia as a modem, internet sharing on my phone (using Vodacom) works perfectly fine. Just to be sure you did get the update after the "WP7 Mango" update, I think that's only when Internet Sharing was enabled (I could be wrong)
