iBurst system upgrade this weekend.

Great News

....

but the title is incorrect.... Not "iBurst System Upgrade" but rather "iBurst finally fixes billing problems"

But good on you guys - one step at a time - next time it might be better packages/etc !

Just a quick update:

Migration and other processes are going well so far, but we'll only be able to make the final call around 2AM tomorrow if we go live or not.

We've all been here for the last two days and I suspect by tomorrow some guys will be dead on their feet.

Will post a new update sometime Monday morning.

The new Boss has set the rules:

First the billing issues will be sorted.

Only then will new packages/rates etc be implemented.

Question: Why is it calles iBoss? Would iJannie not be more appropriate? :)

:D

Telco backend systems are normally in one of two major groups: Operational Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS).

So if you build a fully integrated system, you end up with iBOSS. :)

So, iBOSS is much more than a billing system, but it is being rolled out in phases. The phase going live now replaces all the back-end systems (where most of the historical problems originated) whereas the next phase will concentrate on the UI's, etc.

Hmmmm bit of a problem with the new system I've noticed so far.

50% of the time I connect I'm stuck in access abyss and redirected to http://www.iburst.co.za/default.aspx?link=cap_reached for every link.

(I'm on the throttled setup btw)

This makes reconnecting to get a better ping/solve connection oddities a bit annoying but isn't exactly earth shattering....just thought it was worth mentioning.

Hi Basjohn

Try now. Should be ok.

Let me know if your still not getting through.

Thanks

WORKING?
I think you guys just scored a potential customer, very impressed.

All systems live, but there is a hiccup or two we're still looking at. Will update again in a while.

I'm really interested to hear the public's response to this new system. Sounds very exciting indeed.

1 Question though Shaun, with iBurst being here now for several years, why did it take so long? I realize that most of the systems are custom etc, but this could have been implemented from the beginning looking at case studies of your international counter parts.

So much frustration caused...

I'm also a bit impressed with a company who realizes that after hours upgrades are the norm, not these 2 bit yahoo's who upgrade their systems during the day (normal business hours)

But only a bit ;)

I the beginning of iBurst there was no development on a new system as our billing was run on a pre-packaged system.

With the growth of iBurst the development was begun and that puts us in this position with iBoss's launch.

As iBurst has grown so too has its systems.

I have great faith in iBoss.

Enjoy the day.

Ok, so I logged into check our bandwidth:

Downloaded -1 MB
Uploaded -1 MB
Total 2 MB
Remaining 432.8837
Purchased 0

Also, you might want to change the sorting order of the "Buy a booster" menu, 500,1000,100,3000 .. I won't talk about the prices :P

Hi

From my side...

I get funny reports when trying to view bandwidth usage on site.

Your Bandwidth usage for this month:
Received -2 Mb
Sent
Carried over
Purchased
Total
Remaining

That's it. Just the one -2Mb

Another account :

Your Bandwidth usage for this month:
Received 0 Mb
Sent 0 Mb
Carried over 0 Mb
Purchased 0 Mb
Total 2 Mb
Remaining 3227 Mb

I take it that the counters need to be populated first before we can get any meaningful figures?

If they give me some extra cap I'll populate like an epileptic superfly bunnyrabbit on benzine. :D

But seriously, ..

TL, are you 'capped' ? According to my IPCop and the old and current BW data, we should not be capped - but it sure feels like it, our connection died just now for about 15min and since then I'm getting bad speeds.

The menu system at www.iburst.co.za does not work under FireFox 3.5.x (trying to access the menu's via the tabs). The pull-down menus do work though.

Another problem :

Client got 4 iBurst accounts.

Two of the accounts I was able to view bandwidth reports for, but the remaining two I was unable to get bandwidth reports for.

Is there still a problem?

@Shaun - PM'd you the accounts and a little more detail.

Thanks!

Libs

The client was complaining about the one account not able to send/receive - and we were unable to VPN in to that specific router.

However, all checks out fine on site, I'm able to browse (posting from that specific PC and iBurst router) and download files without any issues.

Speed? This site is slow, and always has been - at least you don't get serious timeouts here... it is browseable and stuff, you just have to be a wee bit patient :D

Nah still getting the cap reached message quite regularly. Reconnected once this afternoon, was "capped". Reconnected again, still "capped" tried a third reconnect and my password was blocked. After waiting 2 minutes for it to "unblock" I reconnected and got on properly.

I suspect you'll get quite alot of these frustrations from users that utilize the throttled service though I'm not sure how many of them there actually are at this point.
