Idle Observatory - Open Beta Android Idle Game

So it’s finally here. I know it’s been a while but a lot has changed and an update will soon be live at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=main.idleobs. Should be within an hour or so. Leave it to auto update otherwise update directly from the store.

Idle Observatory v0.11 changelog:

  • Added setting to hide bought upgrades - Pretty self explanatory, In Settings you’ll find a toggle to show or hide any upgrades that you have bought.
  • Made Welcome page scroll on smaller screens - On devices with smaller screens the welcome page goes off the screen. Added in that the Welcome screen scrolls so those displays will be able to see all the content.
  • Removed duplicate attribution item - Somehow there were 2 items in the Attributions page for the email icon. No idea why or how so just hide the 2nd one.
  • The app now logs into Google Play Games Services at startup. This enables achievements to be logged. Cloud saves still to come.
  • Added in some Achievements with more to come as time goes by.
  • Added in an Achievements menu to display all achievements available.
  • Added in the link to our Reddit Community in the socials list. Previously it would just say that a community still needed to be created, well now it has. Come join us if you’re on Reddit.
  • Fixed spacing in Attributions & About pages - The headings had too much space below them. Sorted now.
  • Adjusted menus - Moved all menus to the top of the screen but with space to see the current production values in the background. I also redesigned the upgrades menu with tabs for each section.
  • Added more upgrades - Added one more set of upgrades.
  • Added new upgrade to lower Data Upgrade divisor - Use this upgrade to lower the divisor when upgrading Data Storage.
  • Added new area to buy Insight Tokens - You are now able to buy Insight Tokens.
  • Added constellation for researching for boosts - New constellation area added to spend Insight Tokens on for researching bigger boosts.
  • Added setting for scientific notation - Explains itself, added scientific notation to all numbers.
I’m interested to see how some of you use the new mechanics.

Hi again. I've pushed a patch that should fix the issue that some devices are having of crashing when opening the settings menu. Please check for the update in the Play Store at https://bit.ly/IdleObs

Apologies about that. For some reason the crash didn't happen on any of my test devices.

Small update going out within the next hour or so. Nothing to write home about so not going to make a huge announcement about it.

  • Changed the text on the Insight Token from 1Million to 100k, like it should be. I put 1 too many zeros in.
  • Added some text next to the constellation star multiplier to say that it affects all observatories.
  • Added in an attribution for seasky.org for the data about each constellation.
  • Made the popup text not wrap at the right hand edge of the screen. It will now just go off the screen but it won’t wrap. I did test making the text not go off the screen but then it looked weird if you tapped right on the edge and then the text suddenly appears way off to the left just to not go off the screen, so just left it to appear where you tap, but go off screen.
I think that’s all I added in tonight. Will carry on tomorrow evening with whatever I decide to do from all the lists of things to get done :)

Throwback to one of the original versions of the game. We've come a long way since this. It just had basic tap functionality that counted one per second.

Should be able to send an update tomorrow. I can do it now but it's almost time to sleep and last time I released an update and then went to bed and woke up to that big setting page glitch and all the messages that came with it. Not fun. I've tested this release on as many devices I could to see if something broke but so far not so hopefully we are good. Till tomorrow! Have a good evening.
 
Update - Pale Blue Dot.png​

Good morning. I've just send out the new update, "Pale Bot Dot", and it is live in the Play Store so either let it update by itself or go to the store page and choose 'Update'.

As well as many small stability changes in the background, these are the main changes:

- Upgrade available notification - On the Upgrades button is now a small 'pale blue dot' that will show if there is an upgrade available to buy.
- Added setting to set if Omega upgrades to be included in upgrade notification - Change this if you want the blue dot to include the upgrades in the Omega Upgrades section, tap bonus, offline time, etc.
- Balancing of token bonus for constellations, upgrades costs and upgrades bonuses - A lot of balancing. Tokens weaker but upgrades stronger but more expensive in order to stretch them across the full length of the game and not have everyone fly through them at the first Insight token.
- Added another constellation - That. Which one? You'll have to find out.
- Added more achievements - 21 more achievements added.
- Fixed side of screen popup text wrap - No more wrapping on the edge. It now just goes off the screen.
- Added more info to the stats page - Added a lot more info to the stats page. Numbers Overload!

I decided to give the updates names as it's easier for me to remember what was in each update rather than 0.10, 0.11, and now this will be 0.12. "Pale Blue Dot" helps me know it's the one where I added the... pale blue dot :) Does anyone know what that refers to?
