I'm going to war!!! With sugar.

My metabolism is very high.. doesnt matter what i eat, i can never pick up weight or much of it. So any suggestions guys, as i too am ready to go to war on Sugar :)

Count your calories. Then make sure that you go into a caloric surplus each day. I promise you, you will stop saying you have a fast metabolism after a few weeks :)

I also talk about calories and how to count them in this video:

Preparation is key. If you don't have healthy snacks on hand, you will go for the unhealthy choices. Stop worrying about your weight, and set some goals.

Mine are:

- 5km run by end of October (to beat my previous times while being comfortable)
- Warrior in December (work on upper body strength)
- White collar MMA end of next year (depending on fitness level and strength)

To achieve those goals, I have to bring up my overall fitness and strength.

When I was younger, I was very, very lean and I ate all sorts of junk. I could eat 10 000kj a day and get away with it. I did until I was around 25 and then started gaining weight quickly. I am pretty tall (just under 6ft) and being so lean made me look super skinny. I hated it until I stopped focusing on it.

Also, throw the scale away. Progress is slow, and can be very demotivating if you are impatient like me.

Thanks will focus away from my weight. Hate being skinny btw, but would like to see a bit more leaner muscle and so forth. Genetics in the family is skinny, my dad was short and skinny, im tall and skinny lol. Worst part of me is my legs, they are pretty thin. Would like to know how i can improve that aspect as well.

Like sean said, eat more (think healthy fats and lots of protein) and make strength training your main exercise. My calves are tiny little things as well. :crylaugh:

Head over to the body builders thread as well for some advise too. If I were you, I would look at setting some strength related goals (like being able to do X amount of pull-ups with some weight, dead-lifts with a big number, etc).

Maybe consider a personal trainer for a while to show you the ropes and check up on your form. It can be little expensive, but they can teach you a lot. I always worry about my form and have to ask friends for help sometimes.

Edit:

Start a food journal. There are apps that can help. At least understand what you really are consuming before setting out on your lifestyle change. Comparing your diet to some guides will set you down the right path as well.

yeh im going to. To be honest, when i trained, it was more cardio type of things. We didnt focus too much on strength related things, as i was a football and cricket player, and did sprints in athletics. Strangely, looking back, it was one of the mistakes to not focus on build up strength as well.

Think i will start off slow with this

You make a good point. But is he now "unrelatable" because you are comparing yourself to him?

No. I just think he is generally unrelatable to most people, he is not the 'mean' or 'average' person. Me personally, I have watched some of his videos and a lot of the advice he gives he implements in his life and I cannot relate to it all.

Can someone give a link to his channel?

Sorry sean, not trying to make competition for you, I am just curious to see what advise he gives.

Good choice :D

When you do start lifting weights and working on your strength, the gains will come fast (Enjoy that while it lasts :o)

Genetically I too have skinny legs. They are pretty damn strong and I train them every second day, yet growth is still slow. The only way I've been able to start putting on mass is by adding in an isolation leg exercise at the end of every session (even after leg days) for a month. So this month I'm doing leg extensions at the end of every session. Next month will be leg curls. Legs are finally startingt o grow because of this.

sweet, will let you okes know how things are going. :)

:D I have no issue with sharing his channel, I shared it on the video and in the video description.

Thanks for the link. The first video is "The Real Bruce Wayne". That made me laugh. It's a bit outrageous actually. The commentary on the woman's stuff put me off. He seems to dictate what my goals should be, which focuses on appearance. My goals are completely different. I follow Emily Skye and use some of the different Body Rock TV sessions depending on how I am feeling for the day.

I think I use YouTube is a very selfish way. I only take away certain things from videos. So yes - Greg can seem a bit full of himself at most times but he does have a lot of useful info. When I would like to watch something on strengthening the mind or self improvement I watch old Elliot Hulse videos. When I just want some all round general information I'll switch over to Maxx Chewning (Thank me later :D)

I go through phases. I do not mind Maxx Chewing. I do quite enjoy TeamRichy (He is a CrossFit Vlogger though) at the moment as well as Sarahs Day and Nikki Blackketter.

so.. update time.. 3 weeks later and I have lost 3 kilos.. hit my first milestone of 90kg. Hopefully I don't plateau at this point like I did last time.

Well done!!!!

Remember no matter what, you will at some point plateau. A trick some people use is refeeds. Actually upping their calories (carbs) for a day or 2 just to get their metabolism firing again.

I prefer to advise people to drop their calories by even more (around 200) or tell them to push harder during their workouts or increase cardio.

3 weeks and 3 kg's is great though!

That holds true for most of the supplements out there. Hence why I said that I only give Myprotein a thumbs up as they are one of the most transparent supplement companies out there. Even their branding is low key and straight to the point, unlike others with crazy colours and stupid names like Mass Builder 3000 or preworkouts with names that sound like they can fuel a nuclear plant.

Please share the coffee cake recipe :)

I cheated :) http://bettycrocker.co.uk/products/classic-coffee-cake/

But I skilfully mixed the eggs in :)

I'm not addicted to sugar ,it's just those times when i will eat a full slab and feel like a pos afterwards, asking myself why did i just eat that whole bloody thing. The only sweet thing i will crave is chocolate, you can say it's the coco, because any other sweets or things i hate and never eat.Fizzy drinks i also dont drink, dont like it. I will have one choc slab a month,so you can say i'm doing okay on the sugar side.

Sean didn't you make a thread about wanting to stop eating meat/cut down on it,couple months ago?
