Important DA announcement expected

As an avowed non-racialist I'd be deeply disappointed if the DA chose a leader based on her/his colour so that it can make "inroads" among the electorate. I wouldn't like a DA that has support from people because of the leader's race. This is what we're trying to get away from.[
The problem is that 'trying' is just a nice idea in your mind. There is almost no actual course of action to get the masses of ANC voters to change the way they vote. It's a nice sentiment Arthur, but when the overwhelming majority of voters vote on skin color and keep the ANC on their seat of power - it's simply not enough to sit there with lofty ideals of non-racial tactics while the other party runs the country into the ground.

I'll take the lesser evil (DA race pandering) over the ANC and it's continued dominance over the country any day.

I understand. The choice ain't easy. But, personally, I wouldn't want to be part of something that trades on (one of) the things that's ruining this country: race-based identity politics.

Then vote for a different party. It's not a two horse race.

It is what I do.

Indeed. It's just sad to see the retreat from principle. I've known and been involved for years. I wrote Tony Leon's first political manifesto - for SRC elections at Wits in the 70s, and Helen was a young reporter on the student politics beat.

The ANC is ruining the country. If the ANC were selfless and cared only for the good of the country we'd have no problem with the racial vote. The ANC are the variable here - they're what's ruining the country. If another party has no way other than to exploit the very same process the ANC depend on - so be it.

I don't think we're at a point now of having the luxury of a 20 year plan. The ANC need to go.

Enca's Xolile Mngambi says Zille's party spokesperson Ntomboxolo Makoba wasn't even aware of any big changes within the party. There was speculation earlier on Sunday that the announcement had to do with leadership changes within the party in the Western Cape (where it governs).

At this point, the media conference hasn't started, more than an hour after it was supposed to.

Every political movement on the planet chooses a leader which is best suited to getting support from the most people. South Africa is obsessed with race. Obsession with race is the only political thing blacks, whites etc have in common with each other.

A vision of non-racialism in SA is like goldfish with vision of leaving their goldfish bowl.
