Important DA announcement expected

My vote is for mmusi on this one. He appeals to the younger generation of voters, the ones who have the highest voter apathy. A fresh face in DA leadership like mmusis will show transformation.
It was just a practical decision. The DA knows most of the voters they are trying to woo don't want to see a white face on the ballot.

If I have to explain it then you won't understand.

Your UK passport is up to date, right?

Most of the DA electorate don't have much time for an ex trade-unionist. The DA has been a massive critic of COSATU. It would be an unmitigated disaster. And no, lots of black working class voters won't just suddenly voting en masse for the DA if he was at the helm.

Sad day, Helen was a great leader that instilled a good work ethic and who lead by example. In her own way, Helen helped South Africans in way they probably don't even realize. I can understand her position, she has being under constant attack for a long time already and I am sure she is tired. Time for another leader to step up and fill the gap.

My vote is with Mmusi.

Hi Nicholas Farrell

Wrong and wrong.

Don't let your Constantia blinkers get in the way.

She is well past her prime and it shows. Arrogant was a word designed around her.

The timing of this announcement has been spot on for HZ and her camp. One of the possible candidates De Lille has committed to the provincial race and thus cant campaign for this.

Trollip as well would need time as well to line up support, a month is nowhere near enough. Add Mazibuko being at Harvard and this not leaving her time to come back to campaign.

Great timing indeed for heir apparent Maimane

Trollip is aiming for the Federal Chair position. He was unable to beat Lindiwe, Im pretty sure he wont even try and compete at this. Mazibuko is happy at Harvard and has no short term plans to come back. One of the reasons she left is because she knew she wouldn't stand a chance against Mmusi.

I would have liked Helen to stand against Mmusi and for Mmusi to have won his own steam. Now armchair politicians are going to make it out like she handed him the position.

I do think there are going to be a lot more people within the party competing for the position though. If it was Helen no one would really compete (she has immense moral authority within the party and is greatly respected), but I think against Mmusi that will embolden a lot of people within the party to challenge him. As he is still young.

I will be going to Federal Congress. Totally voting Mmusi all the way :D

Pity Vavi isn't eligible. I'd vote for the DA with Vavi in charge.
Vavi might be opposed the corrupt indolent ANC culture but he is still very much a staunch socialist and everything he stands for in terms of labour and the economy is diametrically opposed to the DA who are liberal and dabbled in conservative policy under HZ.

Yeah, says the guy who worships Putin. A person who has long overstayed his position in power and whom I cant think of anyone who is more arrogant than him.

The DA are a central left party. They are a modern social liberal party. They are not right wing liberals like you are trying to make out. They totally are for social welfare.

In my province even though we have a handful of conservatives in our party, the last thing you can describe it as is conservative. Its majority woman and Im pretty suck majority non-white now in the EC. We growing like crazy.
