I'm so Goth, my wrists slit themselves
So basically GPU fried taking the motherboard with it.
https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/878640-AMD-A8-7650K

Not going to continue the old thread, things have changed a bit.My brother has offered to assist in building a new computer and I can pay him off over two or 3 months, he prefers that I have warranty, considering the PC I use is basically my income no PC no income, literally screwed. He is coming down to visit me on the weekend of the 7th of next month. He wants to order from takealot, pretty set in his ways so takealot is what I have to work with so only have a short window to get things ordered, and only from takealot it self got burned before using 3rd parties on takealot.

So basically have to work with no more then 5kish could possible push for 6K have to consider the 3 month repayment.

So would like to transfer all of the old hardware, including the the DDR3 16gig ram I have.
Intel selection
http://www.takealot.com/intel-core-15-4590-3-3ghz-6mb-cache-skt-1150/PLID32727745
http://www.takealot.com/msi-intel-h81m-p33-h81-chipset-motherboard-socket-1150/PLID28620999
and then I can add a GPU for the budget some thing small till I can get a proper card

VS

AMD (did Select the right socket for amd cpu ? Would it support DDR3 1333)
http://www.takealot.com/gigabyte-880gm-d2h-socket-am3-motherboard/PLID13726521
http://www.takealot.com/amd-fx-8300-3-3ghz-4-2ghz-eight-core-processors/PLID42596443
and then I can add a GPU for the budget slightly better GPU no need to get one later

I am not particularly worried about speed difference there doesn't seem to be much in it in most cases looking at multi core passmark, single core passmark intel wins, obviously the intel is the better CPU here.

is there a different AMD combo that can match the intel within reason and 4k and have 128bit GPU at a 5.5K budget

Always been a Intel fanboi only ever had a AMD system back in 2001.So have zero clue as to AMD stability or performance compared to intel. I know the Intel is best buy, but problematic in the GPU.

So basically GPU fried taking the motherboard with it, so have to get new Board/CPU and GPU with in 5.5K budget and the issue min 128bit GPU 2gig ram, Min 4 core CPU and motherboard any thing will do but has to support my DDR3 1333 ram.Still planning on getting the board for the 2500K and use that as a backup so this never happens again :p

What do you use the computer for? Do you play games? What type of games?

I'd avoid the AMD FX 8300. Its power hungry and runs hot, and its single threaded performance is bad.

Regarding Intel, I would personally sell that DDR3 memory you have, and upgrade to a complete modern Intel Kaby lake DDR4 platform. No point in buying a new CPU and motherboard for that price if you are going to stay on DDR3 and old tech.

Get these:
Intel Core i5 R3399
DDR4 Memory R1059
Motherboard R1296

Total cost: R5751

Subtract the selling price of your DDR3 from that - you might get R1000 or so. The advantage is, you will be on the latest platform with the latest support for memory, GPUs, etc etc. It will last a lot longer.

Intel Core i5s do have integrated graphics so they will work for basic tasks. For gaming, you would need to buy a GPU. But I'd rather get a better platform first - since you need it for work - and add a GPU later when you can afford it.

As pointed out my brother only uses takealot, so only what is on takealot, doesn't trust any other online store and no 3rd parties ( not going to argue with him on that just happy he is willing to assist). It has to include a GPU.I don't care for latest or greatest, 4 cores min and be as fast as my old system or faster and a 128bit GPU.The more hardware I can transplant the better.Nothing secondhand either he wants me to have warranty in case some thing happens.

Thanks thought input is valued, brother fronting the money, so basically he pays, and what he says goes. Thanks for the feedback on the AMD so intel it is then, not going to look a gift horse in the mouth the sooner I get back to work the sooner I earn money again so buying another GPU at a later day isn't an option either.

Then which 128bit GPU amd or nvidia.

I do 3D modeling including, texturing rendering, photoshop which is why I want the 16gig ram transplanted I will have far more issues with running out of ram then I will do with with speed of the ram, speed isn't my major concern just needs to be good.

I can't in good conscience recommend TakeAlot as the sole supplier of PC hardware. Wootware generally has a better selection and better prices, and in fact often better customer service.

If buying from Takealot, get a 1050 or 1050Ti. Not only are those cards decent for the price, but TakeAlot doesn't generally carry the latest generation AMD hardware.

Have a look at this, for interest sake:
Cheapest 1050 at TakeAlot R2286
Cheapest 1050 at Wootware - R1799

Nearly R500 difference. Now I get that your brother is paying, but actually, he isn't the one taking the risk. If you order from Wootware and they deliver duds to you (which they won't), he can wash his hands and say too bad.

He said 3D modelling in the other thread. One of the few places those AMDs did well. The more cores the better. For R5k-R6k I'd say:

MOBO R1.7k

CPU R1.8k

GPU R1.6k

Total: R5.1k

Probably the best build for him to buy, I just wish he could afford Ryzen instead of Bulldozer. It is literally about twice as fast as that CPU.

There is quite a difference between DDR3 and DDR4. I recently built a Skylake Core i5 system and the speed difference for normal tasks were way better than the older Haswell system. Older 3D games also worked fine of the onboard GPU.

It's a pity you are not in the window for AMD Ryzen 5. That's got way more horsepower for your 3D work as it's multicore and multi-threaded, and runs cooler unlike the Core i5 that's just multi-core.

Ok, if we're limited to Takealot...

CPU R2.1k

MOBO R1.1k

GPU R2.2k

Total: R5.4K

Takealot service has gone down drastically in the past 3 months. They are slow to honour warranty's and deliver on time.

It is was it is ;)

Settling on this then.Takealot has never not honored a DOA from me, he is very picky to say the least.

Bit pressed for time, as he wants it delivered in JHB and bring the goods down on the 7th.

I'd buy 2 of those H81 mobo's as they having been in circulation for over a year now.

Why ship to him and bring it down????

So your brother is lending you money, which you are going to pay back, but he tells you where you are allowed to buy things.....

Buying worse at a higher price is a smart way to get value for money

Like I said don't look a gift horse in the mouth.I am not seeing the actual money he will be making the order and paying and taking delivery and every thing and basically bring it down with him.I am rural freestate which means by the time he gets here on the 7th it will still not be here.

He is in JHB so turn around will be far quicker, makes complete sense ;)

He is very careful with regards to using his credit card online, used takealot before and have no issues with them, like I said am not going to have an argument with him regards to price and stores to use, grateful to be assisted no questions asks.Besides his wife passed away less then 6 months back, so he doesn't need additional crap from me about minor issues that costs me a couple of bucks more.Just happy to be assisted the end. It's not the worse deal ever, could have done far worse ;)

So let it be his money the end.Just need to get the best possible combo with in budget.

Well order placed ;)

Stuck with the original Board and CPU and went with the RX460 2gb for a temp card till I can get some thing else.

Does some one want to sponsor me some noodles and bread for the next 3 months, or invite me to dinner :P

I hope the RX460 rocks !!
