iOS 7 upgrade in SA: problems and where to get help

Make a booking to upgrade? Core fail AGAIN. I once argued with them about this make a booking thing and they nerds there insisted it was "industry standard" practise.

Lemme be grateful I don't hall an iBrick around...

For most capped users 700-900MB isn't that much. Most fixed-line ISP's offer 1GB Topups for between R15 and R50. But I guess if the downloads timeout often enough, this could get insanely expensive.

upgraded at a telkom mobile hotspot this morning :) 100%

thank you for the free wi-fi :)

OMG seriously?! If you can afford an iPhone or apple device that can take iOS7 then you shouldn't worry about a few gigs here and there. Jeepers, what a joke.

They made me pay to restore to 6.1.4 when my phone froze after installing an app.

I believe this applies even in the US where you need to make an appointment with the Genuis Bar or some such.

However at the same time I believe the US Apple Store have machines available for "Do it yourself" options if it's all about saving the bandwidth/drama and not for being inept at using the device.

It was a mission to upgrade my Ipad Mini to ios7.

Firstly Issue = iTunes gave a pop-up that I should upgrade to iTunes v.11.1 (something like that), when clicking the download button I get 20kbps download speed and then it fails, then searched my ass off for a download link so that I can download it with a download manager, got the link and downloaded at full speed.

Second Issue = Had to upgrade my ios to ios6.1.3.

Then only did I get the chance to download ios7, it was almost 1.2GB's and took forever to download, once it was done it only took about 10minutes to upgrade the software.

So far it's running smoothly, but man what a job just to get ios7 installed... :wtf:

EDIT = Just saw that ios7 has the option for "Personal Wifi Hotspot", was never available before, awesome upgrade so far!!

It was there before but you had to go activate it somewhere in settings
now it just activated from the start.

Only in SA is 700MB considered a lot. In some countries that's going to take a few seconds to download.

why not save yourself the hassle of trying to download the update via itunes and use a direct download link instead?

Downloaded for my iPad Mini last night. Would not do it over wi-fi at first because I was connected to iTunes. Disconnect and voila, download started.
Updated iTunes as well, but not as dependency.
Thanks to mystery bandwidth from Afrihost, not concerned about size of DL. FTW!!

I upgraded 5 devices, all took 40 mins to an hour to download starting at 8pm last night, no restarts of downloads.

If it really is an issue, and you get a failed download, then go here to download your version and then do the install.

Downloaded and installed mine 7:30pm on Wednesday night. took an hour. no problems. 700mb. Quite curious as to the reasons for the differing download sizes?

Why not do it yourself?

Long story, downloaded Pdanet from Cyda & was stuck in an activation loop. I tried everything under the sun without any joy. Had to go to Core& they had to use three PC for the restore, the funny part the "genius" didn't see that the phone was jailbroken
