Quick thread regarding your best video/movie player for you iPad/iPhone.

I use VLC & 99% of the stuff I throw at it plays tops.

Once in a blue moon I get a codec issue; seen below.

Anybody have any insight into what App would play/have the missing codec?

^ thanks for the Intel. Fair bit of money for an App that I would not use much as VLC works 99% of the time for me.

You on a Mac or a PC? I'm kinda particular about video and have been using iFlicks for years now to convert everything to .m4v and add info and art before adding them to iTunes.

OP what region/timezone is your ipad set to?

Region SA & time zone automatically set.

To date I can think of only 3 movies out of many many that gave me this VLC Codec issue. iOS 8 & iOS 9.

So it's not a huge issue just interesting to know other people's take on it.

Then how come vlc for the pc can decode AC3?

It's actually AC3 on mobile specifically. VLC and a few other players had them enabled on initial releases until threatened to take down. So eg I had VLC, OPlayer etc where it all just worked and then they get forced to remove it. Sucks..

These days I just use Plex but with the latest versio their download is broken

Ive heard switching to canada bypasses this codec issue, give it a shot.

PlayerXtreme has served me well. There's a free upgrade to Pro available if you say you'll review it in the iStore.

Very interesting that you posted this, FiestaST...just last night I encountered this for the first time. VLC on my desktop could play it, no problem - but not the mobile version on my iPad. As you say, 99% of the time it plays anything I throw at it.

Funny enough, I then tried to play it with another app, which is not even a dedicated video player - rather an app that lets you download any type of file on websites...and it played the movie without issues...

Will try some of the suggestions mentioned in this thread as well, for the "once in a blue moon" ac3 encoded movie I might want to play.

Tested Canada trick; no luck.

Try KMPlayer perhaps.

Didn't try; reviews didn't look to hot.

Tested & left a review & got the free Pro & upgrade & it works...perfect. Decent App but main thing is these one in a blue moons files play. Shot guy!

Lol interesting enough; best solution for these one in a blue moon files IMO is get PlayerXtreme; there will be an option to leave a App Store review & then it's a free upgrade to Pro. The files work now

All in all lovely work gents

$9 & still has IAP...way too rich for my blood considering VLC plays 99% of my content & PlayerXtreme the other 1%.

I don't need super enhanced functionality & what not.

I guess VLC cannot be beaten when it comes to the price. I bought nPlayer when it was $3.99 and at the time there was no IAP. Not sure what the "upgrade" will add. First time I see it.
