iPhone 13 contract vs prepaid comparison

Bought a Redmi 9T 128GB dual SIM cash for R3499 and a 60GB anytime data contract for R299 a month for the spare SIM slot. Sure, not as glam or gangsta as the iPhone but feels like a better deal.

I still have my old Redmi 9C and it works perfectly till today. My primary is a note 10 pro that I picked up on sale for R4999 from the MIA website. That thing is as good as an iPhone for sure.

Apple products being the hot garbage these days. Who on earth pays almost R14K on a phone??
I guess Apple aficionados to impress other people or a status symbol, or just to have the newest phone out there.

My budget on a new phone is maximum R8K.
A lot of good specced phones for that price... POCO, Xiaomi, OnePlus... I can get a POCO X3 Pro on TaL for R5.4K with decent storage, 256GB, 8Gigs of RAM (plenty!) and a decent looking camera, with Dual SIM too.
I'm currently sporting a Oneplus 6T, running Android 11. A 3 y.o. phone, still running good, with updates from OnePlus. It may not have like 5 cameras, but I don't need 5 cameras. In this current state, it's more than enough for me. WhatsApp, YT, Spotify, Chrome. And I paid like 6K back then for it, for 128GB.

Never been an Apple fanboi. Have used an iPhone with iOS 7 for a week (temporary replacement phone), never again. Was too limited. Mostly used to make phone calls, and little WhatsApp, that's it.

You changed phones in the space of 13 minutes from a Nokia 3310 to a Note.
This. I'd never justify spending 21k for an iPhone 13 pro.

I use this phone at the moment and it is perfect for my needs - calls and sms.

An iPhone is okay... if you want to impress girls or if you are a flamboyant gay.

Now that's a rant. Was it worth the effort?

IOS7 was back in 2013.

While I appreciate that using an iPhone 5, on loan, for a whole week, nearly a decade ago, qualifies everyone as an expert on all things Apple right until the universe contracts; and that your particular budget for a new phone extends to R8k, this thread really isn’t for you.

It’s for folks still deciding which way of spending R25k on a 2021 iPhone would suit them best.

iPhones are truly expensive, but it really is a good product. It is probably your most used device that you own. Even more than your car, TV, coffee machine. It is probably worth it to spend a decent amount of money on it.
My question. Who are the people actually buying the top of the range iPhones? I use my phone for everything, everyday. Work, entertainment, home security, navigation etc. I am also able to afford the Pro Max cash with one month’s savings. I save about R35k in cash every month and have a few million rand in savings and even I am trying to figure how to get the new iPhone on the best deal.
Are there people buying the phone on contract where you are living paycheck to paycheck? Or is someone buying the iPhone with money they had to save up for a year. It is your choice, but I am curious if there are really people doing that.

You must be furious all day long when you see people walking past you with Rolex watches, driving past you in Porsches, pulling up into expensive driveways.
You have choices in life, just as do those who use Apple products. Enjoy

In my experience it is Android users who are more likely to be telling everyone how many cores, gigahertz and RAM they have. Apple users seem to just use their phones. After all they bought them to use, not show off.

My budget on a new phone is maximum R8K.
Who are you trying to impress with such an expensive phone? Android fanatics always seem to be claiming users buy Apple phones to show off, so I must assume the same is true for those who buy expensive Android models.

Maybe they can add some language checking.

You are aware that apple are not the only ones who make expensive phones right, there is a Samsung you can grab for around 40k, many of them in the 20 to 30k bracket, Huawei and OnePlus even have phones in that price range. The new Google Pixel probably won’t be too far off.

There are lots of different phones in different price ranges from most if not all manufacturers to cater for different needs of different people.

Your personal needs may be satisfied by an 8 grand phone and other people are willing to pay more and get more, or if not always more just a better experience or a better specific feature, which again is not exclusive to Apple.

There are many who grab the S21 or P40 for their crazy cameras.

Life is about choice, not everyone’s life fits into your perceptions.

There was a time in my life when 8k was also my budget, then life changed and I found that if your willing to spend more, you can actually get more, but that’s my personal choices and what I am willing to pay for what I want, can very well be something you as a different person are not interested in.

Personally I would not touch anything from Samsung, regardless of price because in my personal opinion and experience, they are **** and insecure.

I quite enjoyed using Xiaomi when I had a few of them, Same for Huawei and Nokia and whatever other phones I owned.

For me, personally, for what I get out of it, dropping 24k on an iPhone is perfectly acceptable to me and a worthwhile purchase, 2 years ago I had a different opinion, but one that was formed back with the 3GS, and I had the opportunity to make use of one for no cost and I realized that my opinion was outdated. I grew up, I matured, my needs changed and an iPhone fitted my needs better than any android I’d be willing to spend money on.

Yeah, I've had my iphone 6 for 6 years, iphone 5 and 4 before that. It still runs fine but am looking to upgrade to 6S (R2000 about on gumtree) just to get latest ios so I can try a pair of airpods pro as hearing aids.

Insecure how?

Who are these plebs who buy sub-R10,000 phones and what are they doing in a thread about quality communications devices?

Please, ride your goat-wagon back to Pauperville and eat your week-old rice cakes and baked beans and leave the thread about excellent electronic devices to those who appreciate quality.

Ordered a Telkom 1.5GB FreeMe iPhone 13 online and a few days later I'm receiving it today via courier.

It's my family's first iPhone in the house, so let's see how it compares to Androids we all have been using for a decade.

Damn this thread got all salty fast, people must be spewing froth from their mouth when they visit sandton/v&a/gateway and see all the high price tags.
