iPhone 5 is the best smartphone ever: Stuff

The iPhone is a "smartphone"? Does it have widgets?
 
Would anyone keep on buying and believing a car magazine that makes BMW the winner in every test/comparison/review year after year? I want the bad also and every single thing made by mankind has flaws. Some mags don't get it and I've stopped buying them. When one is going to invest the next 24 months in a device at R400 plus per month one wants the whole story, not drool.
 
So was Stuff ok last month when they voted the Galaxy S3 as the best phone? :)

I don't see why it is hard to believe? The Geekbench and browser tests that have shown up show it to be faster than any Android device (phone, phablet or tablet) it is extremely thin, very light and brilliantly built. The OS is slick and easy to use and while it doesn't have extreme widgets or any of the Android bloatware it does work. That is one thing the Andorid must give Apple credit for, they do not release half-baked apps. It is all very functional and works well. (And before you come at me for Siri, if you use it for long enough it learns your voice and becomes extremely accurate and while it certainly isn't perfect it is getting better and more functional with every update. The same can't be said for SVoice or SBeam. And Apple Maps is still a WOP but what they have now is great and it will only get better. It was a massive project for them and it probably will never be entirely finished.)

That is exactly it. We want to know about the stuff that still need improvement and how that can/will happen over time ... as you just described.

We get the good and bad of the other devices from these mags but when it come to Apple it's all so "OMG this is sooooo awesome". Most here have been around the block enough times to knlw nothing is ever that perfect.

All my extreme widgets and bloatware work just fine thanks. As a matter of fact I can select which "bloatware" I want to run since nothing is forced on me.

It has been fun baiting the iPhone fanboys but even I am getting bored now. The iPhone 5 is a great phone in a good looking shell but it is not the best smartphone available at the moment.

Yeah once you root the S3 the options are open.
 
A friend of mine has had endless problems with his iPad 2 ... works for a few weeks and then he starts to get "no sim inserted" errors. The same part (and a few others) has been replaces a few times already. The techies at the accredited Apple repair centre says it's a known problem with the iPad 2 and they do these repairs all the time. He's now getting a refurbished model. My wife's iPhone 4's screen has cracked a few times over the last two years from very minor bumps. Apple devices are not perfect. Nothing ever is. I wish some journos would just get a bit more realistic and believable.

All said and done and all things considered I do believe the new iPhone is the best phone ever. I genuinely do. That design is awesome. I will want one just for the beauty of it.

Hohum... sunspider... yes, Geekbench no.

Review the device at will, but please hold it to the same yardstick you have used on the others and try and use more real world criteria and less of the "seems" snappier "feels faster" or the usual touchy feely fan-rahrahrahisms.
Thin and pretty and oooohdrool do not a review make.

PS. A review should not be a summary of the keynote iphone5 presentation.

Just because Stuff likes it is not good enough for some people.

AJ, I'm actually seriously looking in that direction, especially with tablets. I have a contract due for an upgrade and was told I can only take a phone as part of un upgrade ... so the Lumia is in my crosshairs. It's a gadget guy thing ....

Looks stunning. I'm just concerned about the number of apps for the first year or so. Will be interesting to see at what price points these things come to our market.

We busy developing some, and I know Microsoft is having a large push for more. In fact Metro ie PC Desktop + Windows Phone will help developers target a larger audience.

Sure it will start slow but its going to roll past the other 2 platforms in no time at all.
