I guess your answer is best user experience or something? I'm genuinely interested why it's the best
PS I'll give it credit where it's due, such as build quality and OS stability ... But I do feel it's only caught up (not surpassed) on some features and still lacks others. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a feature where it is number one?

Is your your opinion based on you owning/using an iPhone 5 or just reading Stuff magazine?
The OS stablity is becoming less and less with every version. Youtube app is unstable as hell on ios5.

It is a rather bold statement I agree. But I'm entitled to it, no? It's an opinion poll and I give my opinion freely.
Basically... yes, it has all the features that anybody else has now (with the notable exception of NFC which we'll agree is controversial). What sets it apart for me is the implementation of those features, the unwillingness to compromise on any single aspect.
1) The chassis is just leagues ahead of anything else. Look at the care they put into it - micron-level measurements in the fitment. That's not Jony Ive being blustery and bs'y, it's the facts - that's the care they were willing to put into it. Everything in the design side was rethought and refined endlessly. Nobody else cares that much - not HTC, not Nokia, and certainly not Samsung. It's also just incredibly aesthetically beautiful - playing off the iPhone4 concepts but far classier.
2) The screen is smaller than other competitive smartphones, granted, so if you're explicitly after a big screen experience, you'll be better off with the OneX, the 920 or the SGS3. But a bigger screen doesn't equal a better phone - I even found my 4.3" sgs2 when I had it to be unwieldy. And there will be phones with higher PPI's - Xperia S already does have that, and that Oopo 5" 1080p phone will rain showers of pixely poop on anything else.
But the screen on iPhone5 still looks like the best QUALITY display on the market. It's got what, 50% higher contrast over the 4S? That was already a superbly high contrast screen. The videos I've seen show it to be immediately brighter, warmer and more vivid. It displays the full sRGB gamut which means it displays colours that your pitiful simian eyeballs can't even see. And they brought the sensors as close as possible to the surface which will increase touch sensitivity and thinness. PPI is only a part of what makes a screen excellent - once you've passed the threshold of retina level, other factors become more important. (Although I'm also keen to see whether that 1080p 5" display is noticeably improved to the naked eye; I'll bet it is).
3) It is really really fast. I know all smartphones are fast now but iPhone5 is the fastest in real benchmarks. And on iOS that translates to crazy loading speeds and overall perceptibly better user experience. And they managed to increase the speed twofold while bringing the thermal envelope down, which is a hell of an achievement. Not only that, they integrated LTE that also doesn't chow the battery (I know LTE is useless here, it's still cool).
Not only is the CPU fast, the GPU looks crazy insane. The flyover 3d mapped demo was pure madness, and the Real Racing 3 screenshots are easily xbox level. I actually would love to be able to use my phone as a gaming device and on this count not only is iPhone5 ahead of anyone else, so is iOS's game selection.
4) I actually like iOS. I agree that it's getting a bit long in the tooth from the UI side but I still like it. I use this Sony tablet every day and I just prefer iOS. The experience is better. I'm not trying to be a fanboy, I'm actually trying very hard not to be - but there it is, what can you do?
Yes I own an iPhone5 because Tim Cook personally flew to my house to deliver one to me. :erm:
It's just from reading all the reviews I could find and checking out the Youtube videos of it being used. I haven't read the Stuff article but I have read Engadget, Gizmodo, Anandtech, Arstechnica, Daring Fireball, and a bunch of others.

Apple sells phones for the masses for whom image is pretty much the overriding factor in everything they do. Sadly its much bigger market than the intelligent / self-directed. As magazines are in the business of making profit this is the market they target.

Actually, no. His reply is perfectly thought out and contains factual information. He even acknowledges that iOS is getting a bit stale and that other phones have higher PPI screens.
Your post is just another example of the entire counter movement that is happening at the moment. Hating on Apple products is becoming 'cool'. Honestly the entire thing is getting tiresome.

Update: So we've spent even longer with the iPhone 5 and have some pretty solid impressions of the device. First, the display is indeed noticeably more vibrant than the 4S, which isn't super surprising considering Apple's move from on-cell to in-cell touch and full sRGB coverage. We'll be able to tell in due time just how close it comes to 100% sRGB, but what we saw was very impressive. Touch response remains completely fluid and 1:1, if you're concerned about going to in-cell introducing digitizer recognition issues, rest assured there didn't seem to be any here.
It was a claim that they made in the keynote, and it hasn't been confirmed in panel tests yet but I'm sure Anand Shimpi will get to it soon.

rofl we are hyped about the 920 because it brings new functionality like wireless charging, nfc, Pureview Carl Zeis optics with image stabilising, free music, sensitive glove friendly touch screen, windows 8, usb host etc.
It's not just a 900 with a bigger screen.
It's really true innovation, only Nokia.

I'll give Nokia PureView, they certainly are making much better cameras than phones these days.
And how often do you have gloves on while typing? If I was in Serbia this would be the phone for me.
