iPhone here this month

I got a sms from voda stating that they acknowledge the fact that i pre-registered for the phone, and will contact me as soon as they get more details...hmmm ok il wait a bit more...

Dear Vodacom3G,

It looks really unprofessional when a company representative do not know the difference between there, they're and their. Please consult a dictionary before making any further posts...

And by the way, there are a couple of other countries included in the same release cycle as SA, that have already released the iPhone, so I think it is safe to assume that it is mainly vodacom/vodafone's fault that it's not yet available here...

i think its safe to say you ...should keep quite round about now

you should be the last to comment with your 45 post.:D and no facts to base your argument on dude..

Agreed I am waiting on the PRO, sick and tired of being messed around

I've always loved (and hated, go figure ) HTC phones and have owned most of them from the early days, but I'm also quite keen on the Pro. So it will be on my upgrade list. Played a bit with the Diamond (beautiful piece of kit) but I need a decent keyboard.

Having said that, I played with the new BlackBerry Bold over the last few days and it's very impressive, quite a lot bigger than the current models but with a stunning screen.

So I'll probably stay with a HTC and BB as my 2 primary phones. And this from a die-hard Nokia fan....

I want an iphone.
I think that there is a lot of development being done for the iphone at the moment. Google and Facebook leading the way. Also the interface is much more flowing than that of the diamond or any windows mobile based phone. Android is not ready yet. I think.

Vodacom3g. If you're looking to get rid of that shiny thing with the apple logo in you drawer let me know... Wink wink...
I also think these people are only giving you a hard time because of the customer service in SA. Luckily you're not CellC3g. Hmmm

I gave up waiting and got a N82 - I'll reconsider when my contact expires in 2 yrs.
I would have done that last month already except MTN don't have stock. How r u finding it? Anything major to rave or moan about?

Wait a month or 3 and then maybe pick up a 3G iPhone from someone's drawer. ;)

BTW, I don't think people here give me a hard time at all. (There are one or two looneys, but the forumites tend to sort them out).

Often people post without really thinking the subject through, so I see it mostly as a chance to interact with like-minded people. Amazing what you can sort out just by talking about it.

Dear nelwa,

It is rather ironic, and more aptly in your case, moronic, to criticize the spelling and grammar of a company representative, when you portray a very feeble grasp of the English language yourself (is this redundancy? - go google it and let me know). Please consult with a brain-cell before posting more rubbish.

Haha, good one...and btw, really great way to keep your customer motivated!

Motivated? I think that dictionary might be put to better use if it were sitting on your desk instead. Try a thesaurus as well (its like a dictionary, but provides synonyms instead of definitions. A synonym is a word with identical or similar meanings to another word)... By the way, last week I received an email from a Standard Bank employee who used the word "obsolete" in the wrong context. Should I take it to hellopeter, or would you like me to forward it to you for your collection? Oooh, it would make you livid! If you honestly judge a company by one individual's forum grammar and spelling (which was corrected before you posted), then I hope you are a pretty good subsistence farmer.

Whilst I completely understand from Vodacom's perspective, I do feel that they missed the boat a little here. I was very keen to get an iPhone a few months ago, but the hype has died, technology has moved on and quite frankly, there are better alternatives in my opinion. I would prefer the Samsung INNOV8 now but again, I suspect that might be a long wait.

Whilst there is no way to know what went on behind the scenes between Vodacom, Vodafone and Apple, it seems that there was a bottleneck in the communication there, which doesn't instill confidence moving forward from a consumer's perspective. The wait has been to the detriment of all parties concerned, including the consumer, and shouldn't be allowed to happen again. I suspect that it was distribution agreements from Apple's side which caused the hold-up, but I do agree that Vodacom could have communicated (within the boundaries of the NDA) in a more open way with its customers. In fact, most companies could.

I am in the process of setting up a company and a solution which could help Vodacom and similar companies in this situation, from a communication perspective. Lets see if Vodacom are keen to give it a shot once we are ready to go to market.

Oh boy, oh boy, oy boy !!! I can hardly wait.... This is gonna be the sweeet ! The tought of lots and lots of people rushing out and signing 24 month contracts AND paying in a bit and then they have an iPhone for the next two years :p

Oh just launch the damn thing already !

The App store is also incredible... lots of free apps, no other phone maker comes close here.

Erm, aren't you forgetting the millions of Java Midlets that run on many makes of phones ? What about Symbian or Nokia or MOSH ?

I checked again on this over the weekend and, for sure, VC is not allowed to say anything to anyone about anything, under threat of being buried under a ton of apples.....

But I did ask to see if we can't at least say something. So let's see. But it's pretty much going to be what you've read in my posts on this forum. ;)

Pass me the details on your solution when you're ready to go to market, BTW.

I also got the SMS last week in which vodacom acknowledged me signing up for the iphone. Thanks, but i did that so long ago i can't even remember which month it was in so by now i've moved on.

i wouldn't mind seeing a poll on how much people are willing to pay for this thing though.

*ho hum* Was pretty ecstatic for this techno-toy with all the launch hype. Since then my attention shifted to the Touch Diamond. My wife even upgraded to one this weekend and I must say, it's pretty cool...

I dont have much to contribute to this thread but Im with V3G.
Why would vodacom delay the iphone launch? Im sure they are trying to release it ASAP...

Not that I'm saying this is the case but maybe to unload a huge stock of HTCs?
Just search the forum to see how many peeps have mentioned going for the diamond in the absence of any iPhone news... again: not that I'm saying that's the case... I know that there is a shortage of stock worldwide... so... just sayin.

Yeah, that boat has sailed!

At this point, I'd only be willing to pay maybe R200 per month on a top up contract with zero pay in.

Taking budget into consideration, my first choice though is the N82 on an MTN procall contract @R289 per month. Not a perfect phone, but should make me happier than the iPhone. Thanks to the delay from Vodacom, the now many bad reviews of the iPhone3G have been enough to drum into my head all the cons of the iPhone and why I won't be happy with it. Can't say I've seen the iPhone v1 around much, but the 2nd one I've seen in SA was in possession of someone I met this weekend, and he seemed not too impressed with that, so.... yeah, I'm ready to move on with my life, without the iPhone :p

The htc diamond is an amazing phone. The touchflo interface is maybe even better than the iphones interface. But it's still windows mobile phone. The iphone is much more responsive. But hey that Teeter game is something else

Sure, or an oversupply of any phone that is the same price bracket or similar feature offer. If that were to be the case (not that we're saying that ;) ) the excess stock devalues even more once the iPhone3G is bestowed upon us, in my uninformed opinion :)
