iPhone here this month

WHERE IS THE PROOF!? :D
Its 3:35pm now, my lunch has since been broken down into simple sugars, protein and fats. It takes longer for VC to release pricing than it takes for mother-nature to break down roadkill!

LOL! :)

i wouldn't mind seeing a poll on how much people are willing to pay for this thing though.

VodaCom have no option, they can not sell the phone for more than about R1592-00 (US$199 X 8) for the 8Gig and about R2392-00 (US$299 X 8) for the 16Gig ... And knowing South African suppliers, they will charge the maximum!!

"... will sell for $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model ..." (read more here at ... http://www.macworld.com/article/133838/2008/06/iphone3g.html)

Or are Apple and VC not going to uphold what has been promissed?

VC probably told Steve "Don't worry mate, here we can sell it for R8000 and people will still buy it, so don't worry steve, this is South Africa."

I'm actually more curious about the monthly charges and the data packages that come with it. Cause face it, the iphone is going to encourage people a lot more to surf rather than talk. I'd happily trade in free minutes for free data

Precisely....

I'll gladly pay R1592 up front if the Data packages that come with the phone are decent enough to let me browse on the phone...

AFAIK you can't use the iPhone as a modem, but thats not a huge train smash for me....

You do know that is not going to happen ... Just dont want you to hold your breath or anything, and do yourself some harm!! ;)

I cannot believe that comments like this are still being made!
Check your sources properly. Steve Jobs said that it would be SAID price in most countries, Most, meaning not all, meaning maybe S.A. will not get it at that price.

Just a quick question - why does Apple launch their product only with one network ? Why not just open it up to the market as all other makers do ?

because vodacom pay them money to be the exclusive distributer of their iPhone.

I think we need a new button next to RBP called: EG (Easily Googlable).
The proliferation of outright dumb questions on this forum has me frothing at the mouth most days... so much so that reading this forum has me shopping for samurai swords and Slipknot albums on the sly.

No man, the other way around... Apple selects networks that they want to sell their product.

Either way round - when you look at that situation, would you say it has consumers interest at heart ?

Seems pretty much like standard apple tactics ...
